I hate to even say how long, but it was a adventure for sure. Cabelas makes a heck of a deer cart though. As long as you get the weight distributed right, it works fine with pull straps. We looked like a team of mules pulling it lol.
Was quartering it not an option? My elk last year, we quartered using the gutless method. Four quarters, backstraps, tenderloins and some neck meat packed out. Only thing left behind was the rib meat and a lot of weight. And didn't have blood up to the elbows. Made a believer out of me.
I was against it. The friend with the tag wanted to have photos with the whole elk out if possible. So we made it happen.
I wasn’t gonna say anything about your photography skills, BUT, if y’all did all that packing just for the photo, let’s see some better pictures.
I wasn’t there for those photos. But I’ll upload a better one so you can see the elk a little better.
Things happen in your life that prevents proper preparation. This hunter still wanted to try to harvest a nice bull. When I was asked to help him, I knew what we were in for. Honestly, I told him we would give it our best shot and we may not do any good. I work in Lexington everyday, we went over looking for any sign what so ever in known areas that possibly had elk. Mainly public land. We found tracks! My friend decided to take off Friday and scout all day. Ironically after making a wrong turn, he decided to check it out and ended up finding a second spot with tracks. After work on Friday, I joined him to look at the new spot and we made a decision which one to try. So we decided to hunt the second spot at the wrong turn or got lost lol spot. So that’s kinda how it happened. I personally believe the good Lord above was guiding us the whole time. Just so many things that happened that led us to this bull. I’m just grateful to get to have watched all of it unfold and have been a part of it. A very awesome time and hunt.
