Youth turkey hunt

Today we had a youth turkey hunt sponsored by the Twin Lakes chapter of the NWTF. It has been very windy all day. We had hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, chips and snacks around 11am. So far we have scored (NWTF scoring system) 6 gobblers all two years old or older. The scores run from 59 to 79. The turkey scoring 79 was helped by a double beard one 9 1/4” and one 8 3/4”. We have a prize for highest scoring and second highest scoring turkeys. Highest scoring prize is Stevens 301 410 single shot and second highest scoring is a fan mount with beard and spurs. Just scored another 2 year old or older. Score was 66.5. Here is pic.

I hunted in that one year, I believe I was 15 and my brother was 13. He killed a turkey, and several years later he came back and guided and the kid he took killed one. Good program y’all have going on.

The girl in the fourth picture had the highest scoring gobbler at 79. She won the shotgun. The boy in the second picture had the second highest scoring gobbler at 71.68. He won a free fan, beard and spur mount. Total of 7 gobblers 2 years old or older were harvested. No jakes or bearded hens were taken. The turkeys scored between 59 and 79. Look at all those smiles.

Sorry but not really sure. Think we had 12 hunters that either harvested or showed up for lunch. We knew of other youths hunting but they did not show up for lunch and sign up. Had one boy kill a gobbler but didn’t show up for lunch or to score. It was advertised by three different means but we didn’t meet morning of hunt. You could just show up for lunch or stop by to get one scored.
