This is the world we now live in!!!
I'm well aware. Where I am, Sunday hunting for deer just started a few yrs ago, and not every Sunday is open. Nothing else that's regulated can be hunted on Sundays. No turkey, waterfowl, small game, etc. My boys played baseball, fall and spring, for 11 yrs. Missed out on a lot of hunting. It sucked. Because of that, a lot of kids never got into hunting.

My sons played basketball on weekends at YMCA leagues in February. I was military 30 years. I missed a lot of hunting birthdays aniverseries and family time. But im not gripping. Dont ak for more than ive worked for. Id serve again another 30 years if i had to do it again. Me dont care one way or another. If vets get a day to hunt. Ill hunt it. If not i wont. My sons growing up hunted Deer youth days. But hunted more with me when I coud hunt than the youth days.

Travel baseball teams have winter workouts. Winter indoor soccer leagues are here also. It's a year round commitment.
Travel teams have ruined many lives, good athletes, and parents bank accounts. A kid needs to live. Not be in a year round mandatory commitment. I graduated as a 2 sport varsity player and I learned more about life in the woods, on the farm, and in FFA than any sport.

If you say so but I never saw that, other than the wallet lightened up.

I saw it first hand.

My generation was the first that saw AAU/travel team. At many of the blue chip recruiting camps I went to in HS, guys who could go anywhere in the country and play basketball talked about being sick of it. I personally know of 3 pro caliber players who were burnt out at the age of 17.

I see it more today. Kids want to be kids, parents want to live vicariously through their kids and make them play sports when the kids are sick of it. Frankly, it is sad.

I believe Kids should have a weekend and VETS deserve a weekend. VETS had made a commitment to our country no matter what Branch or position they served. PERIOD. Kids deserve a chance to enjoy the outdoors with out the complications that comes from over crowding of the wetlands. They have a better chance at a positive experience. I didn't get into waterfowling till my 20's so I missed out on that experience.
