For a budget gun my vote is with the t/c compass. I have one and really like it. I’d say the savage axis would also be a great choice, but can’t speak from personal experience about it.
As far as a good scope, what’s your opinion on “not breaking the bank”?
I’m a fan of hawke or vortex

Good choice on the 243. For a kids gun, get one of the Bushnell Banner II 3-9x40 scopes. It will be just fine, for about $80.

I really like the hawke scopes. They are what I buy now. You can get a hawke vantage 3x9x40 for about 110. The last vortex I bought was a diamondback 3x9x40 it was 150.

Sometimes you can find a Leupold rifleman for ~$150. Look at the Mossberg Patriot in .243. Look at reviews at all of them. I did and picked Mossberg. Just pick what makes you comfortable

Kygun is selling tc compass with a vortex crossfire 3x9x40 for 346 dollars after a 50 dollar mail in rebate. Or you could get bare rifle for 234 after rebate then put your own scope on it.

So basically $400 before rebate. That’s a really good price.

It’s looking like my best option is going to be KY Gun Company.

Just call before driving all way over there. I was there yesterday and it’s the lowest I’ve seen them on guns or ammo.

.243 by far in my opinion. I found that my old wooden Ruger M77 kicks less than most synthetic.243 out there. Now it is heavier yes but that also helps with the recoil. It was my first deer rifle and still continue to kill deer every year with it 20 years later.

I believe I would try to find a used Browning 7mm-08 With the Boss and buy it for her. You should be making her wear hearing protection anyway so the Extra noise From the boss should be a non factor. And a 7mm-08 with a boss has hardly any recoil

The 7mm-08 in a youth rifle like the Axis would be a good choose. You may have to look around but Hornady makes a reduce load for the 7-08. As she grows you can move up to the regular loads and replace the stock when she's bigger. May be her first deer rifle will be a treasured heirloom.
