So I’m taking a trip to Yellowstone and the Teton national park. We aren’t gonna do any backcountry hiking but my question is would y’all pack a gun? Like a 44 for bears or just something for people?

Yes!
You can rent bear spray there also.
We went last yr great experience gets crowded from June on you will see lots of wildlife have a great trip.
Going to do south Dakota again this yr as we just passed through it quickly last yr.
Hoping to find a antelope hunt or turkey hunt for next yr.

I would be more worried about people than bears a 9mm should do the trick, lots of woke and city people for the bears to eat.

Pistol for people. Spray for bears. Been there several times & the people are a lot more dangerous than the bears!

Wouldn't worry about bears unless you try to get a close up pic.
If you don't have a Ky CCP, better be careful. Know the laws in the states you'll be visiting. Even if you do have one, NM doesn't recognize it. I got an Arizona permit, that's recognized in NM, so I'll be legal when I'm out there.

Unless you are hiking you will never be alone in yellowstone and if you see a bear they will run after it to get closer! Dumbest people I've ever seen!
Saw a momma and 2 cubs last yr and 20 people chased them into the river
I'm carrying no matter what state I'm in!

Off topic but check out Gypsy Guide. It’s a virtual tour guide downloaded to your phone. We used it last time we were there and it’s surprisingly entertaining. It reads GPS and gives real-time tips and descriptions while you’re driving the area.

I did a family trip out there in 2021 for about 5 weeks. I did not carry around the parks if on trails or sightseeing. Only in my vehicle for human protection. I would definitely carry bear spray instead nearly everywhere you go, it's been made really convenient and it's more effective in most encounters. A lot of backcountry stuff is prohibited at this point anyways. Do yourself a favor and take the cowboy horse ride out to the cookout in the Roosevelt area. That was good food and a lot of fun. Gros ventre area in Teton gets you close to string lake and a lot of other places worth spending several days.

Key point about bear spray....Know how to use it. The guide we use in AK (fishing guide but long time resident) told us to point the spray directly at the ground when you start spraying. If you aim high at the bear they will lower their heads and run under it.
