Earlier this morning at around 10:15 I shot a nice 10 pointer at about 25 yards with a swacker 2 inch. Felt like I made a great shot. Followed the blood which was easy to follow for the first 150 or so yards. It was bright but no bubbles. Started to become less and less until I lost blood after around 250 yards. Could that possibly be the result of a shoulder or muscle hit. The field was very thick where I shot him making it hard to see the arrow after he turned and ran off. Marked last blood which is 50 yards from the creek that turns into the neighbors. Don’t really know what to do. Any suggestions?

How long did you wait after you shot him before you started blood trailing?

We waited 45 minutes and went slow. Never came across a bed or heard him jump

Watch for buzzards or search in a grid pattern

45 minutes is a little quick. I’d grid search.

Did you get pass through? Arrow still in deer. Broke off? How much penetration? If it was muscle or brisket you should have recovered the arrow. If arrow is missing it might be a shoulder with little penetration. Where are you located?

No pass through as we searched the entire lower half of the field and scanned the trails he ran for a possible piece of the arrow. He was broadside and it didn’t sound like a hard smack. It sounded hollow which is what’s confusing. I’m in Washington county close to mackville. Tried posting some pics of the blood on here but never can get it to upload

I’ve spoke with a lady by the name of Natalie and am currently trying to get permission from the neighbor in case the dog takes up the trail on his land

Persistence and dogs find most dead deer. Don’t give up.
