For years I had wanted a food plot in this spot but didnt want to get a dozer. Two sumers ago I finally took it on.

I started clearing the under groth.
The most efficient way I found was using a brush blade on my weedeater. Piling it ontop of a cable and pulling it out of the woods with the UTV.

After I had most of the brush gone I took a lawn mower in and cleaned it up to see what I realy had mainy because I was tired of cutting and daging redbud saplings. Below was after mowing.

Started pulling a few trees with the tractor and chain. After pulling a couple I quickly realized it was much easier and efficient to use the tractors front end loader bucket to push them over.

Draging all the trees out pre-tilled the ground.

After cleaning up and burning the left over limbs I ran a disc over it to level it all out and then I broudcast ladino and oats.

Below is how it looked last fall before spreading lime and over seading. They had it fairly mowed down.

And the last pic is how it looked last week after one mowing.

Plan to move a stand to the far side of the plot, and hope to build a blind on the close end for rainy days and kids.

Very nice job.

I'm impressed with the size of the trees you were able to push over with the front end loader.

How much time did you spend?

Its hard to give a true estimate, I would push 6 or 10 trees down in 10 minutes and spend 2 hrs pulling them out of the woods.

It could of gone a bit quicker if I had help hooking and unhooking the chain to drag them out. I had help for one day.

I only worked on it over the weekends in the heat of the sumer. It took me about 5 weekends in all cutting out the underbrush, pushing trees, cleaning up trash and rocks and discing it up.

The trees pushed alot better than you may think. Once they start to go over gravity starts to take over. It did help having a tractor with front wheel assist.

Make sure you cut any dead hardwoods down with a chain saw instead of pushing them. You dont want a dead tree top breaking out and coming down on top of you.

It was hard work but I feel the rewards come out on top.
