Taking a few youth hunters out this weekend and not any mallards in my area yet, just curious if you all have had any success decoying woodies with a mallard mojo mixed in with a spread of mallards and woodies. I know sometimes woodies dont decoy as well as other puddle ducks. thanks

It's hit or miss. But I wouldn't doubt that Mallards aren't around, they're around but still lots of woodies.

I havent really ever had luck with decoying them at all. I agree with both other comments though, as I know quite a few people that have had some luck with them. I would either find a spot you know woodies are hitting and setup up on them with the spread you mentioned, hope for some bonus mallards. There are a few around already. If you had time to scout that is.

We hunted early wood duck season every day and used a mojo and also didn't we had a few that seen the mojo and made a b line right for it might be good to use a jerk string and mojo, woodies also love movement and the noise of splashn water right at day light we'd shake the water and they fell right in its a Phil Robertson tip that waxed em and also you may have some other ducks we checked one of our wholes today and had about 500 ring knecks and about 30 mallards on it seems to maybe have gotn a lil push

I have had them decoy to mojos several times, I know mojo is now making a wood duck version. We will be after the geese this weekend, have several hundred geese in a couple of different fields. Gonna try to find a few ducks as well though.

Thanks guys for the advice and comments! There are several ponds in the general area that I scouted last weekend and most of them were holding wood ducks and zero mallards. But like some of you have said I have noticed some mallards flying around the last few days so maybe we may get a few bonus mallards! I think Im going to try the mojo and a pulsator to get some movement! hopefully the little ones can hit one or two! Good luck to all the youth

Wood ducks and teal eat a spinner up...

I've seen 'em flare at daybreak only to circle back and hour later and dive in.

MoheganSneak, not sure exactly where you are but the OH river and nearby ponds, lakes and protected inlets definitely have some big ducks on them. They were everywhere around southern OH last week.

I'm almost an hour south of Lexington! That's good to hear, I'm sure some will make their way on down to us!
