    How about this...

You should start a trend. For one year, only buy and use products that come measured in "american" systems and let us know how that works out for you. That can be your own little protest.

Jezus... Everything with you guys is a consipiracy. I simply wanted to share some good hooch with the community and you get all up in arms because it isn't measured out in quart jars.

A quart jar is 1000 ml

  3. It is a conspiracy. They are trying to get us drunk, then convert us in our drunken state of mind. When we wake up, POOF, we will all be socialists and use the metric system. Since we will all be hung over we won't realize what has happened until its too late!! I want to try that stuff pretty bad, but I don't want to wind up a socialist and have to use the metric system...guess I'll just stay sober this weekend

    Not true.

Congress passed a law in the 1860's establishing the metric system as the only legal system of measure in the United States.....and it has never passed another designating an official system of measure.

    You can look it up.

Nah, it's not a conspiracy. It's just a common everyday thread hijacking, and you and your likker were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sorry.

Tell you what, you buy us a jug of the stuff and I'll drink a few milliliters with you, or if it's real good, maybe the whole damn hectare.

Maybe you should look it up. May have not been a "LAW" but there have been plenty actions pass through congress concerning the metric system.

The metric conversion act of 1975.

I'd give the stuff a try but if its like some of that high dollar tequilla that I took a shot of and it tasted like gasoline, you could probably keep it.

If you ask for a pint at a liquor store you get a 375ml bottle. If you ask for a half pint you get a 200ml bottle. I never understood that.

  9. There are actually 473ml in a pint and 236ml in a half pint, so you are getting jobbed either way.

You boys need to slow down and take a drink. Is that White Dog liquor any good?

(yeah, I was in school in the 1970s and remember spending a week or so learning how the Europeans measured their stuff)

I only live about 50 kilometers from the Buffalo Trace distillery!:D

Who really cares? I think just about all you guys are smart enough to know about what you are getting, no matter if it's in metric or not. After years of looking at cans and bottles, sockets, wrenches, and the speedometer on your car, you SHOULD be able to use both systems pretty well. It's not like it's a foreign language.

Have any of you worked on your car or truck, boat, motorcycle lately? Any of you been to the doctors office and had your temp taken? Had a catheter put in? Got a prescription based on body weight? Taken a breathalyzer test? We are on a multi-measurement system and have been for a very long time. The truck in my avitar is as American as it gets and the thing is full of metric hardware, so is my Jeep Cherokee and my made in the USA Honda. The Health Care industry is almost completely metric, when I take a patients temp it is in centigrade and I have to convert it to F for them. Their weight is taken and recorded in kg, medications measured in mg or mls. Oxygen is administered in Liters per hr as are IV fluids.

I have no idea why Buffalo Trace bottles in MLs, but if I had to wager a guess I would guess that it is because they bought their bottling machine from out of country. You know that false advertising can really bite you if you bottle in Mls, but label in pints or qts.

Oh and there are 950ish mls in a qt, not 1000.

OK, all of you dumb, law-abiding citizens with jobs, families and responsibilities need to learn the metric weight system from the neighborhood drug dealers. They do all their transactions in the metric system. They can also convert from grams to ounces and vice versa. Amazing. Haha.

All of which support the act of 1866. Congress has never established feet, pounds, cubits, rods, chains, stones, quarts, or even the nickel bag as a legal unit of measure.
