First rifle that I ever bought with my own money was a Winchester Model 61, 22 magnum, pump, when I was 16 or 17. I bought it to shoot groundhogs and I remember the guy that sold it to me said it was just the thing and I did kill a few with it but I also hit a couple with what I thought were good shots (heard the impact) and they kept right on going, so somewhere along the line I traded it off.

Wish I'd kept it because now, if they're in good shape, they must be considered collector items and they're selling in the $2,000.00 range .... I paid $75.00 brand new for mine. :(

My first purchase I was 14 I had saved for 2 years to get up enough money and got my mother take me to bass pro shop to purchase me a Benelli Supernova turkey gun with the pistol grip that I had been eyeing in the spring turkey flyer sale. That gun weighs a ton but is an turkey killing machine! I will never get rid of that gun.

Marlin Glenfield mod 60. Had engravings of a squirrel that was gaudy as hell on that cheap Marlin finnish. Wish i still had it. Milked cows and worked in tobacco to earn the money for it. Best i remember it was under $100 at Roses.

The moment after my 9th birthday party, I collected my gifts (mostly cash) and tallied the bills. $110 dollars, just enough. I had my eye on a New England Youth single barrel 20 at the local Kmart in Hazard, Ky. !5 minutes after the party ended, I handed over that 110 dollars to the cashier in the sporting goods department and left with my first ever purchased gun and a box of high brass shells. Still have her and she was my first for squirrel, rabbit, grouse, and deer!!!!

I this is about your first gun and I posted that earlier. The second gun I ever bought was a New England fire arm single shot 30-30. I didn't have a deer rifle and borrowed one a lot. At the time I worked at Service Merchandise in Lexington (for all the old people here). The gun was on clearance. With my discount I got it, a sling, box of shells and a plano case for $70.

  8. I still have the NE Firearms single shot 20 (not youth) my grandpa gave me for my 12th birthday, 33 years ago. I love that shotgun!

Had plenty that were given to me by my dad and brother but first gun I bought myself was a TC Black Diamond ML from a gun show for $175. Used it 4-5 years and sold it for $200. It had some type of cheap scope on it but must have even hunted/sighted. First time I shot hit corner of bullseye at 50 yds so I never messed with it.

In 74 my dad & mom bought me a 12ga Hi-Standard 2 3/4". Bet I missed 100 squirrels with it and 4 or 5 gobblers in 3 years. One day I finally patterned the thing. Shot a donut pattern with about a 18" hole in the center. I was working a bit by then and saved my money and bought me a Remington 870 3" and the killing started! That same year I bought myself a Rem 760 Pump 30-06. Still have both. Sold the hi std to a guy to use to dispatch sharks on the ocean before bringing em aboard the boat.
