What is wrong with this deer?

Had this buck come in earlier this week. The rack looks fine but the deer is looking like he is not doing well. I know that bucks can wear themselves down during the rut, but he looks like he has something else going on.

What do y’all think?

Very possible. He'd get a pass for sure, although I don't know how he'd survive anything more than a very mild winter.

He is definitely super skinny. Otherwise looks healthy from a still pic. Hopefully he survives because he has a beautiful rack on him!

I have seen cattle do this when they eat a piece of metal and it sticks inside their stomach . It is called hardware . This may or may not be the case but with no sores , hair loss or large lumps , I think hardware.
