For deer I’ll be using a Savage 220 slug gun with 3” Remington Accutip slugs. Shotgun is topped with a Nikon Prostaff 5 2.5-10 scope. This slug gun will really shoot well. I’ve been very impressed with it.
I just took the Leupold Vari X 2 off my Rem 700 308 and put it on my Savage 220 so the 308 is out of commission until I can get new glass for it. If I can’t get the 220 sighted in before season starts I’ll just use the Rem 700 in 7mm Rem Mag. I’m sure the deer won’t have much to say about it afterwards...

If I can't get my refurbished Marlin 336 in 35-30 wildcat back together and sighted in, I may just use my other one in 30-30. I know it is a shooter. I also may break out my Savage 99 in .243 just for kicks. I want to kill one with my sporterized M1917 30-06, but I can't shoot it anymore until I get a new recoil pad on it. It hurts with the 60 year old hardened original hardened rubber one. Last year I got my bad neck screwed up shooting it before season and couldn't hunt much. I have to realize my neck needs to not be jarred any more. Darned old age!

I remember my dad bought a 742 around 1970 he ordered it out of a catalog best i remember gave around 145 dollars for it i remember the mail man walking up thru the yard with it Man have times changed on buying a gun i have several friends that use them i have killed deer with them myself liked them fine i also like the pumps i have 2 in 30-06 very accurate and fun to shoot they never really caught on around here but are very popular up in the north east the Benoits used them all the guns listed on here are fine guns and its a preference and what anybody has confidence in i like all mine but i have killed so many deer with a 700 rem and i have a better scope on it so i guess thats what i will use this year if i get healthy enough to hunt

My Muzzle Loader is still charged for our late December M/L season.

Mine too. I may pull out the little NE single shot 270. When I use it things drop dead. Whatever the case you don’t need something that “will reach out and touch one” where I hunt. Too thick, and well, too crowded. Not a fan of gun season myself, at least not that opening weekend.

Same here too. The furthest shot would be within 200 yards or less. All of the Deer I've taken averaged <75 yards, but did take one @ 150 yards one Season.
