Yes the nitrile gloves will save you--my first impression of that whole scenario was remembering when my dad took one out of a woodburning stove at a friends house. Had the leather gloves on he used to work wood with. Held the squirrel by the scruff and explained to me why you dont mess with them in anything else. Lesson learned for me and no pain involved.

When we were first married, I had an inexpensive gas grill on the porch. I lit it one afternoon to let it warm for some grillin. After a few minutes, I lifted the lid, and there was a mouse running around and around and around and around, lol. Didn't know they could move that fast. I turned the gas off and it shot out the bottom like a bullet. LOL. He had hot feet!Next time ... he'll just throw a few logs in there and light 'em!

My grandpa said they wouldn't let go till it thunder,. When one got me he ask did I hear thunder I said i reckon so I seen flash of lightning too,
I shook my hand 3 times before it came off. Took some meat out of my finger. I looked at it as I made that post. I still have the scar 40 yrs later

Had a 12-14 lber grab me in the side, through a grass sack. Hurt like a mfer. Had a 5-6 lber get my thumb as I was removing a hook. Based on that, I would not want to be bitten by a big one.

Had a friend who is dead now use to catch turtles under roots of river banks just like people catch catfish,. Got 5 burlap sacks one day in less than 2 hours, mfer had all 10 fingers!
