Congratulations, That is a big time trophy. 3 beards plus a band!!!!
Very cool, if you ever were going to do a full body mount… this one is it. My first bird was a triple beard but financially I was not in the position to do a full body mount. I did get a nice fan and beard plaque.I had the most exciting hunt I’ve had in a while. The birds were gobbling like it was the first day. Had at least 5-6 gobbling but I could tell maybe 3 were jakes.
I set up at the top of a small open field surrounded by woods. One flew down in the inside of the woods above me and one was on the next ridge. The jakes were close as well. The one closest to me was fired up but wouldn’t come out in the opening. I tried a little excited calling and the silence treatment. He had to be within 30 to 40 yards then move away then come back. I was starting to be in extreme pain from the small sapling I had to lean on as well as holding my gun in the ready position for close to an hour. The other bird was getting closer and thought he may come in. Lo and behold the bird I was working finally walked down the trail enough that he came into the field. I had to mover my barrel a few inches and he went on alert…. but it was too late. 22 yards and it was over.
I could tell it was a good bird but I still had a surprise. As I bend down to look at the beard I see he had three beards. Beards were 10, 7, 5.5 and weighed 22 lbs 2 ounces. The second surprise was I then noticed he had a band. That just capped off an awesome hunt. I gotta thank my buddy for allowing me to hunt his property when they were done. It sure made this old turkey chasers day. View attachment 112948 View attachment 112949
This is what the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says about the bands. They say Silver and Green. They have 2 bands in ky one is silver and one is gold the silver gives you a certificate the gold one is a $75.00 money band!
My neighbors brother killed one last week with a gold band
Congratulations on a true trophy.
