My 8 yr old son took his first buck on opening morning. A beautiful 9 pont buck. We hunted from a 2 man ladder stand. Saw a really nice buck first thing chasing a doe across the field. The closest he got to us was about 180 yds. He wasnt running just following the doe at a steady walk. Walker wanted to take a shot but i wouldn't let him try it. I had told him 150 yds was the max I was going to let him shoot. ( and that was standing still )At about 10:30 we climbed down so I could help a buddy who's son also had taken a buck. We were heading to the truck and came upon another field. We eased around to check to see if there was any deer out. I spotted a doe! I could tell she had been chased. She had went in the woods by the time we got there. I slowly stood up to where I could see the whole field. Sure enough I spotted a buck! I knew he was going to come quick. He was about 275 yds at this point. We hunkered back down and got in a small creek to hopefully head the buck off before he got in the woods. We hustled up the creek, at one point Walker fell down in a hole of water ( he was soaked ). We made it to the spot and crawled up the bank. I get him in position. He puts his gun on his shooting sticks and I whistle at the buck. He stops right before he was stepping in the woods. Walker made a perfect 125 yd shot and dropped him in his tracks. It is his 3rd deer. One of the best days of my life!
