So as I have mentioned, I got started hunting in Boyle County, but have now moved to Virginia. I’ve stuck around this forum because I’ve learned so much, and I like y’all. Plus, where I hunt isn’t that different from Kentucky. Except for this: VA bear firearm season is Nov 23-Jan 2 Whitetail modern gun is Nov 14-28. VA special Thanksgiving Fall turkey season: Nov 25 and 26. AND, Virginia sells a combined Sportsmans license that includes all three. AND Virginia will let me hunt turkey with a rifle. So tomorrow—plus Thanksgiving morning if I decide I don’t care if my wife’s affection anymore—I can sit in one stand with one gun and shoot the makings of burgoo. And we’ve got a stand with sign and pictures of all three. Only restriction is buck only, with a 4 points on one side minimum APR. Over / under is even money: 0.5 animals killed. Heck, I think squirrel might be open, too. Just thought you might like to know.
I went to school in Virginia and really enjoyed hunting there. Unlike my home state access to private land was no problem, the seasons were long and bag limits liberal. I loved the long ML deer season. The only problem was no hunting on Sunday. I don't know if that's still the case.
Hunting on Sunday: no problem. And you're right, I have more properties to hunt than I have days to hunt them.
Where in VA are you? I hunt the NC/VA border on the Caswell/Pittsylvania county line. Just starting to see bears down our way but lots of em 10 miles North.
I Is that all also open to out of state guys? I know some guys who hunt Virginia and have seen bear. Might be a good trip to make.
