No lie. I know a guy that’s got 370k on his Tundra, has had very few issues, and still drives the heck out of it. Funny thing, the joker has all sorts of money and could probably pay for a 2 or 3 2023 models with cash.

Things can happen to any vehicle and brand though at anytime. Surprised my wife by trading in her Corolla and getting her a new RAV 4 for her 30th birthday. We had it 7 years without an issue but was heading home from S Florida one summer and literally every service light imaginable came on. Nearest Toyota was Ocala as we’d already driven a couple hours. Ocala said they could have a part by the next day but couldn’t guarantee it would fix everything that was wrong with it and most likely would to keep 2-3 days. Had a 1 year old and 2 dogs with us. I decided to go for it. Our normal 15-16 hours back to Ky turned into 22 hrs as we had to poke it in. Couldn’t get it past about 45. It was a little after midnight when I pulled into the Ky rest area and then couldn’t get it to go in reverse. I had some space so I just pulled forward (didn’t want to risk neutral) across the sidewalk and back into the drive and hit the road. A little past the Man O War exit it literally wouldn’t do 20 mph. Somehow we made it home. Next day, called Toyota to take it in. Wife followed in my truck. It seemed to run fine but all the lights were on. They were talking thousands to even get into it with the transmission being shot for sure. Of course my stupid arse didn’t have an extended warranty. I ended up with $2400 to put in on another car for my wife when that car was still worth like 12k. Sucked and seemed like a great tragedy at the time. Now we look back on it and laugh just thankful we got back from Florida safely. We’ve actually owned 4 RAV 4s, 2 Tundras and Corolla. Sorry about the long story.

I like a Toyota ,but they‘re good and bad in all makes ,I had a 91 grand am ,with a sixteen valve four cylinder,we put over 300,000 miles on it before the odometer quit ,and drove it a while after that ,the only thing we ever done to it was timing tensioner,s .After we bought it ,we were told they were junk.

The END!!!!
So what’s the sweet spot for buying a Tacoma as far as years to consider, engine and mileage?

I bought a V6 2004 Camry with 130k miles on it for $2500. Now it’s got close to 200k. Best money I’ve spent on a vehicle.
Check the frame on any Tacoma you look at... Mainly around the spring hangers on the rear differential.

Those V6 camry engines just keep going, the 4 banger camry's are hit and miss.
My brother is a Camry aficionado, I'd wager that he owns approximately 20 right now.
The Camry V6's are harder to work on because of lack of room but they go forever.

Consumer Union and other publications suggest you buy a brand new Tacoma because the high resale value doesn't give you a benefit when you purchase it used

I’ve got 2000 extended cab 4x4. It’s got the 2.7 engine 5 speed manual transmission. I’ve had this truck for 20 years it’s got over 270,000 miles on it. Doesn’t use any oil and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. The only bolts that have been turned on the motor was when I had the valve cover gasket replaced. I did have to replace the ball joints and tie rod ends and put a new radiator in it this past summer but that’s not bad for 20 years. It doesn’t look like much now but I drive it almost every day.

I’ve also got 2009 4x4 with a v6 it’s got 60k mikes on it. I’ve only had it about 2 years and hardly ever drive it. I’ve put less than 10k miles on it since I’ve had it. I got lucky and bought it right before used trucks went through the roof. Got a pretty good deal on it.

Anyone get a Tacoma TRD Pro? How does it ride on the streets?
I wish I had $60k to drop on one.

For that money no way would I get a Tacoma over a Tundra. If you can spend that you can certainly afford the gas for the big truck.
