3 or 4 at the most, usually 1 shot is all I need. 15 rounds was what I took with me in my younger days when I was squirrel hunting, if I had more or less seemed like I didn’t do as well so that’s what I take. I usually hunt close to the house so I take my rhino and only walk in a half mile at the most.

That's a very good question from two perspectives.

    1) How many rounds do I load? Until I started taking my sons hunting, I loaded whatever the rifle would hold. With young sons, I encouraged them to load only 3. The reason being that fumbling with extra rounds was just going to cause trouble. Then it dawned on me that I never shot more than 2 myself and if I had to shoot more, something was wrong, and perhaps taking a breather might be in order. For most of the past 20 years, I've only loaded 3 rounds.

    2) How many rounds do I carry? I use those MTM plastic ammo wallets. They take 9 rounds. That's enough for the whole season. I have several and I color-coded them with electrical tape.

I fill my gun up and put one round in each front pocket. Just a habit/ tradition/good luck. I normally only use 1 or two a day. Don’t like to have anymore then five hanging during cold weather. Most seasons it’s to warm to hang more then one night.

I don’t take much. Toilet paper in truck. I just go back if I gotta shat. Lol.
Headlamp, grunt call, and wind indicator of some sort. Load rifle with 5 and carry extra 5. Leave rest at truck. I’m no more than 2000 yard from truck at most all times.
