5EBC3AA8-6517-4426-95EB-06AE035324E1.jpeg Scouted a new farm I got permission on this week. Big difference from what I’m used to being I hunt mostly field edges and fence row trees. This is all timber. Found plenty of chestnut oaks and some white oaks. Chestnut oaks are loaded and raining right now!!!

The deer abandoned our feeders in Hart a little over a week ago. I assumed they headed to the chestnut oak ridges on our place.

I was working in a field today removing some fence. It was raining acorns and hickory nuts. White oaks, chestnut oaks and hickories falling like crazy in this wind.

I witnessed this one succumbing to the effects of gravity. Same as luvtohunt's photo this acorn left it's hat in the tree.

I seen a few falling yesterday while scouting a new spot. Not many on the ground but witnessed 2 or 3 fall within 5 minutes or so. Plan on being in a nearby tree one evening this week or next weekend

Most bearing Oaks, on my property, are still holding their acorns, however I don't think there is a "bumper crop" of acorns like I thought earlier. Got a Shingle Oak near my back front door, which usually bears small sized acorns each year but has none this year. Same with Hickory Nuts; I see more Hickory Nuts this year, compared to last year, but not a "Bumper Crop" of nuts. We had a late freeze, not too bad of a freeze in late April, but I am guessing I have around 40% bearing on both Hickory & Oak trees. Currently seeing most of the Deer out in my back field browsing on grasses.

Acorns & hickory nuts falling at Ky Lake. Bouncing off the roof. Deck has a lot of nuts on it every morning. You wake up real fast when you step on an acorn barefoot, coffee flies too. Little cussing involved.

No, I haven't noticed any dead oak trees this year on my property. Had seen a couple but that was years ago and due mostly to the ice storm of 2009. However, driving to town, I've noticed some dead oak trees along the way into town. Not sure the reason for their deaths though. My Hickory, Beach trees are okay it just that I don't see the amount of mast they should be bearing this year. It looks like there is around 40% mast on the trees this year. Squirrels are very few on my property though, I've only bagged 4 Squirrels so far after hunting 9 times, don't know whats wrong. Squirrels have been in short supply for the past 5 years.
