Alright my friends. I joined the club last week. Fired up the thermacell for the first time last night out on the patio and got it going right now with the fire pit. Jury is still out. Do I notice a difference/think it helps? Yes. No bugs in a 15x15 area, I’d have to say no. As a matter of fact, I just sprayed some bug spray b/c those little small black mosquitoes were wearing me out. Don’t shoot me, just giving my early evaluation. Maybe it’s something I’m doing wrong?

If there was any wind, and you're upwind, you lose the benefit. Also, how did you have it arranged? It works on heat, so if it wasn't low, then you missed out. They work amazing in a stand or blind, just make sure it is below you.

For the patio/etc, they make a lantern that does a great job.. Disperses the scent in a wider area.

I’ve seen them. My patio is only 12x15 and my yard is tiny so I figured I could just use the one I got for hunting. It helps. Probably need to change the pad more often even though it says 3-4 hours.

Yeah, but the hunting model is pretty much one directional. The lantern does a better job of dispersing the bug juice. It will help, no doubt. But the hunting models are designed for a stand/blind situation.

I hang mine at the bottom of my climber right under me so the scent comes straight up and around me. I've never heard of the 15x15 deal but I have sat and watched mosquitoes just hover about 3 feet from my face and not get closer.

I don't worry about it. It allows me to sit still on the stand.

I'm sure it is way down the list of things I've done that are bad for me. I end up using a thermocell around 3 to 4 times a year.

It said 15x15 on the box. Like I said, think it helps but 15x15, no way.

Permethrin if I remember correctly...like Sawyers only aerosolized because of the heat...probably pretty bad for you to breath...

Question is ??? Is it worse for you than malaria, zika or west nile that are all carried by mosquitoes?

I would also say that I get a sphere of protection about 5' in diameter...just make sure that you are in that 5' and you are golden...
