I dont use calls, scents, or mineral licks. Only used food plots for 2 years after not seeing 1 single deer up there 3 years ago. Nor do i use cams.

I am taking away from the professors trophy at all. Very happy for him and BG....whatever gets him hooked is great.

You had a very low profile respectful opinion of how “you” felt and the satisfaction that you gain from hunting or not hunting over corn. That’s great and good to share your opinion.

However someone else, not you, to tell someone that killed their first deer that they were not even hunting is an attempt to take away from their glory. There was no reason for that to be said and to try to make someone feel any less about their kill. In my opinion, that’s pretty much saying they don’t deserve to say they went hunting, just rude

I think the corn/ food plots etc are s great way to introduce kids new hunters etc to hunting! I too hunted for 7 years before I saw and shot the first legal deer to cross in front of me. It can be hard to maintain focus that long lol. I run feeders on my farm, I personally don’t sit on em unless I’m just shooting for meat. My frustration comes from all the guys I see hauling the 4 wheelers and buying corn the night before gun season. I feed all year with the exception of the down period during spring turkey season, I feel like if your gonna use the corn to help harvest then respect the animals enough to help feed em in January and feb too! That’s my gripe with it. Ive Got 200 acres next door to my farm that is leased and while bow hunting last fri they were riding around putting out corn and sighting in rifles!!! So point I was making if you want to shoot over corn go for it as much your right as someone else’s to not do it, I think using it to get someone’s first deer is an excellent resource and good way to intro people to hunting. I agree it’s not putting in the work but I also agree it shouldn’t have been pointed out in a post about someone’s first deer that he is and should be very proud of!!

Good job professor hang in there baggem if you got to use corn. It's like these Mexico Hunt's were people pay this big big money and kill deer. And ranch hands know we're they are all at. That's not hunting. That's like high fences and overated. Just something to. Brag about

By the way, venison makes up 80% or more of my protein intake. Does that make me a hunter?

Cant tell ya the last time i had beef.....3-4 months maybe. I do eat pork sausage. Havent had chicken in ages either.

D, I'll stop, you're just too easy to get riled up. Next thing you'll be wanting to have a barren co smackdown.
No, I’m not normally easily riled up. That was just a shitty thing to say about the kid. He didn’t put in work. Like I said, didn’t expect that from you. That’s all I’ve got to say on the subject.

I just want to make sure we all know that while this guy is 'the professor' [is he even A professor?] I am now and always will be theprofessor. :)

Congrats, lil professor.

Dude, Congratulations on your first deer! You’ll never forget it, and you’ll always have a special place in your heart for bgkyarcher for his help in making it happen.
Also, I’m glad you changed your stance on baiting after listening to Ted Nugent telling it like it is a
few weeks ago!!!
You freakin ROCK Dude!!!

Its sucks that professor DW’s First kill thread went down this road... if he were younger id probably get banned.
i disagree with the assertion that dumping a bag of corn isnt hunting vs scouting and not using corn, its simply a different method that adds a degree of difficulty.
Truth is if you want to start splitting hairs about who is and who is not a hunter then none of us are hunters. A “real hunter” is a person thats family only gets to eat meat if they kill something.

Different hunting methods need to be utilized in different situations and different properties. Some methods are more effective than others.
Hunting a deer over corn will likely produce meat on the table, but it will also provide a new hunter with the opportunity to kill an animal ethically, and gain some much needed experience.
I would argue it is harder for a new hunter to kill a deer over corn than it is for a seasoned trad hunter of 40 years to kill a deer with a longbow (and is more of an accomplishment.)
Seems as though some of us have forgotten their first deer and everything that went with it. The smell of deer urine all over your boots, the frozen toes in a pair of cotton socks while wearing steel toe boots, the sound of the unanswered doe bleat, the frustration of the misses before the kill, not finding the animal in your scope, and all the non sightings that occurred. I wasted a lot of time screwing up and could have used a mentor.
New hunters are severely handicapped because of the lack of experience. Most people who try hunting quit because when you are doing it wrong, it sucks. Hunters can add constraints to themselves as they gain experience to keep things interesting, but nothing is harder than just being a new hunter.
Mentoring is a great thing and hopefully produces a great generation of future hunters.

This guy can call anyone “not a real hunter”/ “deer shooter” all day long and i wont argue.

Now that's a HUNTER. Hit a Kangaroo with a BOW.
