I saw one in a Peterson’s mag years ago that was live weight over 400 and it had small rack. It was enormous. I think the biggest was from Minnesota?

Oh yeah, I'm sure there are a few but one guy killing at least 15 deer that dressed over 300lbs seems far fetched to me. Not saying anyone is making it up just hard to fathom for me. How many deer have you killed that dressed over 200, let alone 300?

Only one honest dressed over 200# that I’ve killed. It was around 225-235 and it looked like a pony to me.

I’ve killed one that easily weighed over 300 on the hoof. Biggest deer my dad had ever seen and he’s been hunting for 60+ years. Back straps were 3 ft long. Wish I still had the picture of him. We hung it from a beam that was 12 ft off the ground his nose touched the ground with his back legs two feet from the beam.

We used to hunt a farm we lost rights to that had does so big I swear if they had racks on them people would say, “Look at the body on that buck!” I’m not sure what it was genetically but these were some big mommas. Guy who lived and hunted the adjoining property killed this monster dbl droptine buck that score 171inches and body wise we killed does that were bigger. Where we’ve hunted the last 10 years our biggest doe would have been average there.
  7. The benoits,I think from vermont, are legends. They hunted by weight, there method was tracking. They have wrote books about them, been in north american whitetail.Even held classes at there home.Think they only used remington 7600 pumps.Remington even made a limited edition 7600 after them.Somebody has had to heard of them.Thsy truly are legends

The deer in my Avatar was 232 dressed. Biggest deer I’ve ever killed by far. He was just genetically a big deer. Height wise, he had the longest legs I’ve ever seen on a deer. Killed him when he was chasing a doe in a flat run. Would like to have seen him before he was run down by the rut.

Regarding 300lb dressed deer. In KY, is say it would be rare. In Northern Indiana, it wasn’t uncommon to get 250lb dressed deer just due to the thousands of acres of corn and soybeans available, and the slightly northern latitude. Farther north in Michigan, Minnesota Canada, etc, I’d say it wouldn’t be unusual to regularly get dressed deer over 300.

My top 5 average 158' so I'm really looking for anything 170+ . Harder to find time to hunt with a 2yr old at home and a busy workload so it might be a while before I get another one. Best I passed this year was a 140 class 10pt. Keep hunting and don't sweat it too much, enough stand time and learning experiences will put you in front of one.
