Been looking around for a place for me and my dad to go Jan of 2024, decided to go to the Tecamonte. He’s always wanted to go to Texas and hunt one of those ranches so it looks like we’ll be getting the around noon on Jan 1, 2024. I’m more excited for him than I am for me. I’ve already asked about sitting in the shooting house with him and his guide so I can watch him shoot his deer then I’ll worry about killing mine. Going on a management hunt for an 8 or 9 point uo to 140” can also shoot Javelenias and hogs for that rate.
Can’t lie, they have blackbuck Antelope so I asked about shooting one of those if it were to step out. They are proud of those things but it may be worth it to just suck it up and pay the money to shoot one.

Sounds pretty awesome Cap. Can’t lie to you though something about David Morris makes me want to punch him in the face. It’s a big operation though and you probably won’t have to deal with him.

If you haven't paid deposit, I highly recommend the 501 Ranch in Uvalde.

I can understand that, but he's probably the original "rockstar celebrity hunter", he was doing it before it was cool. Not that it matters, anyhow good luck Cap and great to hear you and your Pop are heading down there. I'm certain it will be a great trip and a lifetime memory maker.

I can't stress enough for those of you who still have dads around to spend some with them. Not a day goes by I don't wish for one more afternoon to go hunting, fishing, talk on the phone or just stop by.

Got my 80 year old pops in the blind down the ridge about 200 yds from me. Really he’s my biggest motivation for hunting.

I have been to Uvalde, there are some big ranches there with high fence. A lot of the ranch owners drop big hollywood names and talk about previous guests. The deer are huge, but it feels canned. I saw 180-200 class deer just walk right up to my tower and watch me pee off the side. The blackbuck or axis would be what I would be after if I ever go back. The blackbuck are sneeky and fast. They also are mean. They will run right up on another animal and spear them and then run off. The axis are great to eat. Good luck.

How did your hunt feel "canned"?

I guess I am used to having deer be alarmed by the site of humans. The axis still were quite spooky and so were the blackbucks. However , the whitetail just walked around everywhere, only a little wary of humans. Beautiful deer for sure, but they all were like items to purchase. The ranch owner sat with me one morning and was telling me about a recent corporate hunt where a group of executives came out and several of the guys shot some big bucks that were priced at 20k each. Just felt a little off to know that harvesting any of them was on the table if my pockets were deep enough. To each their own; hunting a high fence operation was a distinct experience, but I didn't care for it the way I thought I would. The lodging was really nice, the deer breeding program was top notch, and the opportunity to hunt axis was cool.

501 wasn't like that. Deer acted like deer, bust you and gone. No breeding facilites. Nothing gers shot until 6 1/2 except for management bucks. 12,500 acres high fence. My boys shot nice bucks, javalina, few 140" management bucks and scimitar oryx. Thick stuff there. Couldn't see a white oryx 75 yds in the bush.

2024. Seems like a million years away. If 2023 goes as fast as the last couple years though it’ll be here in no time.

Good luck. Hope you have a great experience all the way around. My dad hunted once this year with me (together but separately) it was awesome just knowing he was out there.
