Rage in the cage. 70lbs 515gr and Chisel tips. All I use. Haven’t had any look like that. They usually look dead and skinned out in my building. To each their own.

If you don’t miss, it don’t matter.

I agree on the 308. I don’t even know if it’s possible to harvest a deer with anything but a 308. I do have a 375hh but I’m not gonna risk even trying a deer with it.

    308 or bust

The only way your testimonial is true is if you are using the generic Chinese “rage”mechanical heads. Anyone who knows anything about bow hunting, knows that brand name rage heads are trash and only wound deer. It’s been scientifically proven.

Never been much on science. I’m pretty good at killing though. I switched from G5’s for my family members that shoot crossbows. We all use Chisel tips, and crossbow shock collars so we can share ammo.

I’m not a Rage fanboy but I’ll use them till they stop working.

Flame On. I got broad shoulders. I can take it. :)

This post went from blaming the shot placement to the bullet to the caliber and now has switched to broadheads. You can tell its November.:D

Deer are light, thin skinned animals. It doesn’t take much to kill one. I’ve used a 270 forever but I wouldn’t hesitate to use a 243. a bullet that’s too heavy may not expand as well as a lighter one.

Native Americans killed everything with a flint rock on the end of a stick.......taken truckloads of deer with .243 and 100gr bullets and several other larger calibers/bullets. Truckloads with 100gr broadheads out of 5 different brands of bows. Not the arrow, it's the Indian regardless what you use

Happy Thanksgiving, Brent. My thoughts are as follows:

    1. You should disregard all posts within this thread, for the time being, with exception to those offering advice with tracking that deer.

    2. When, not if, you locate it, if still alive, you should determine its chance of survival. If prognosis is good, it walks; if poor, you remedy the situation.

    3. Although you should eat something, in order to assist you with your mission, you should refrain from partaking in full Thanksgiving Feast, until you locate that deer.

    Good luck.

This is the first year I have missed a deer and it was at 300 or better yards pretty much off hand

I used a 270 for 30 years and switched to a 308 about 7 yrs ago. I really love the 308 but it does not drop them like the 270
