Tailwaters of Taylorsville Lake

catmaster pretty much hit the basics, but if you hit it in the spring you can come across some nice bass. also in the summer going there night fishing casting spinner and buzz baits work really well. if youy head towards the head waters around the glensboro area in about march the white bass are also a blast. i usually hit the area before turkey season.

Anyone know where the closest boatramp is to the dam....I'm wanting to get downriver in the salt to shoot some fish this summer and can't find any ramps closer than Bardstown...(I think that was where it was )

if you drive down to the tail waters there used to be a place set up for a person to launch a small boat (aluminum) to gain access to the river below the dam. you may want to call and make sure it is still open for use,if not they could tell you where the closest is.i usually put in at van-buren boat ramp and head up river. great action during the right times.

I only live about 20 minutes from vanburen and 10 to the state ramp....during the summer months you can catch me puttin in a vanburen at sunrise allmost every Sunday morning to shoot fish. Maybe I'll drive over to the dam to see if I can get into the river...I hear at times the gar show up in great multitudes in the tailwaters...thanks..

Hey MQ1,

I believe there is (or maybe was) plans to put a small ramp down at the tailwaters, but as of now, there is not one. Some people do put in canoes and small jon boats that they can carry/slide down to the water. Hope this helps. I've got to give this bowfishing a try. I hope to be able to make the Carp-O-Ree this year.

Brian, If I were movin to where you are I'd be plum wore out from shootin fish all summer...There's gonna be a bunch of us at the Carp-o-ree this year...I'm so looking forward to it.... At the UBK general membership meeting , FW unit 22 got voted into heading the carporee this year...being that he has been stationed in your area now you guys aughta hook up....He'll probably try to recruit some help closer to May...If you love to fish, you'll be a nut for shootin em'...The action is so much faster than pitchin a jig in bushes all day...I'm trying to plan a trip down south for a big gator gar in the near future....I'd love to Garpoon one of those 150# monsters....

I have put a john boat in the river below the dam. There is a gravel parking lot at the bottom of the road going to the tailwaters. Pull in this parking lot and you will find a trail leading to the water at the back of the parking lot. We had to carry the boat about 30 yards to the water. If I were to do it again I would pick a day with a slow current because it is hard to maneuver around the downed timber. We drifted to the blue bridge in taylorsville. It took almost an hour.
