Looks good Stone Branch. That’ll kill some of those seedlings and small saplings. Turkeys love burned areas. That area will probably become some of your turkeys daily routine. You did say that you can burn any of your work plan areas before or after you cut. Correct? Can you burn during bat season since you can’t cut?

Good work SB. That'll probably be looking good in a couple months

Thanks guys, this is work area A where I will be hacking and squirting. No stipulations in regards to burning other than the burn ban.

Stuff was burning up there this evening.

DSC06558 (1200 x 800).jpg

I lit some strip uphill head fire

DSC06561 (1200 x 800).jpg

that proved to be a bit too hot.

DSC06568 (1200 x 800).jpg

I went over to the other side of the ridge from the wind and lit it up down the ridge line

DSC06565 (1200 x 800).jpg

DSC06567 (1200 x 800).jpg

I then burned off my raked out fire line back down to the bottom.

Thanks mc, the fire did it's thing in the night, backing all the way down on the west and north slope. It wasn't my intention to burn off the hemlocks on this slope but I may have. I awoke at 3:45am to a fire about 10 yards from my wooden storage building, by the time that I got my clothes on and was out the door, it started raining heavy enough to put the fire out. I can't wait to see the rest of the damage done.

Over here start fire at 6pm. By 8pm humidity making cold fire on hillsides and ridge tops. Doing small areas so I can finish by 8 or 9pm. Had a couple creek bottoms wanted to burn couldn’t hardly get the leaves going even though no rain for five days. You mentioned hemlocks on the slope. I got some really big ones but they are all down in creek bottoms don’t go upslope very far. Take care.

No more head fire in crop trees, it wasn't a big area but I toasted 3 oaks. Sending it through trees that you want cooked is good.

Rolling down the nose,

DSC06739 (1200 x 800).jpg

some hemlocks didn't

DSC06745 (1200 x 800).jpg

some did get burned. I was concerned about canopy fire in the hemlocks.

DSC06746 (1200 x 800).jpg

Heading around the east side, the fire petered at the hemlocks.

I did a couple of hours of prep yesterday. I wanted to burn more but I drew a compromise with the woodcocks. This unit was where I originally started my habitat work by hinging red maples about 1-2 acres in 2019, first fire through the area.

DSC06787 (1200 x 800).jpg

South wind backing down the hill fire. A good bit of multiflora rose and honeysuckle to burn.

DSC06789 (1200 x 800).jpg

I then wrapped around the east end which

DSC06791 (1200 x 800).jpg

set up for some head fire. I went back in a raked out my crop trees better while the fire was working.
