Cool old cabin that you donated, do you have any finished pictures of the gable end that had the other big cut out?

It's Taiwanese, Kingston is the name on it, 5' 16". I'm getting ready to fire it up.

Hey Stone Branch added a few more pictures but then I see you said “finished “. Here is the other gable end sorry it’s not a very good picture.

Hey stone branch are you taking a break from cabin restoration and habitat management and deer hunting? Are the bucks chasing up there?

No breaks, just a bit slow. I've been catching up on work in my new Kentucky shop. My habitat management has been mostly put on hold waiting on an EQIP draw this winter. I'm planning on doing a good bit of burning in the meantime.

Cabin restoration? Well, I bought a sink for the cabin

I drove half all over southern Ohio on Sunday to pick it up. It just looked to me like a sink that a guy who processes deer would like to have in his kitchen.

I did get back to the mess that I left in my barn yard one day.

I brought in any wood that may still be salvageable.

DSC05904 (1200 x 800).jpg

I'm now ready for a campfire and to raise my end bent 8" or so and reset my foundation stones.

DSC05903 (1200 x 800).jpg

I bought a new tool yesterday. I swiped a 2x7 shotgun scope off of a shotgun.

DSC05934 (1200 x 800).jpg

I bore sighted the gun on a 50 yard target by looking through the barrel. I then shot two and then ran patches, repeating this 5 times.

It was getting to be deer time, so I finished up with 3 semi quick shots at 97 yards.

I'm pretty happy with my purchase so far. I will zero it in at 100 yards latter today. Reviews mostly say that the nickel plated trigger assembly is a cut above regular mill spec. Perhaps so but I'm accustomed to a 1 1/2 lb trigger on my Encore and accu triggers on my Savages. My buddy has a 3 1/2lb rise armament trigger for me which I will probably opt for.

Deer hunting?

I'm facing some tough conditions this year. My green patch up on the ridge was browsed clean of green by early October and I'm guessing about a 95% acorn mast failure property wide. My neighbors put out tons of corn so I'm now corning up.

I had Goofy under me one time in October with about 5 minutes left in legal shooting time, he needs more years to mature.

I did get one thing figured out, the 10pt that I had in velvet

IMG_0060 (1200 x 675).jpg

is actually the big 10 that I wanted to encourage to shift his core area onto my ground.

IMG_0032 (1200 x 675).jpg

I have zero hard horned pictures of him this year. By this time last year I had lots of pictures of him.

IMG_0037 (1304 x 733).jpg

I come to find out that he is alive and well and all the rage with the hunters on the lease to the north of me. I saw day time pictures of him at their bait station that sits up on my north fence line. Anything can happen, so i'll keep an eye out for him.

Right now my 2 best likely shooters are both big mature, 5 year or + old, 8 pointers who may be 120".

There was a got bit of rubbing and scraping going on for about a week until this past weekend, hot and wind, I had zero daytime pictures of deer. We now have a waning moon and cold coming, looks good for gun.

There were a bunch of counties over here in south central KY that had burn bans but they got lifted end of October. It’s still really dry over here but no burn bans. I see about 20 counties still have burn bans. Also heard there was a fire at Fort Knox. Like your big double bowl sink that will be handy. Your new tool looks like a tack driver and that is how I’ve always bore sighted my rifles. Hope you take a break, go sit in a stand, enjoy your forest management work and kill a big buck. Good luck.

Just saw your deer hunting update. About 80% of my forest is white oak and I have a big crop of acorns. Saving money on corn and I do have stands setup on acorns. Hey it’s November and the rut so anything can happen. Plus some cold coming looks good. Good luck. Do you just use browning camera’s? What models?

Red flag here yesterday. Cameras are strikeforce/blackouts? Thanks and good luck to you.

So my original thinking of a 50 yard zero was right on, according to one of my ar buddies. He said 50 yard zero, a couple high at 100, and back to zero at 200.

That looks good for 5.56/.223. I bore sight the way you do but at 25 yds. Then use a Hornady and a Nikon ap to tell me what a certain caliber, bullet, weight, velocity, bc, scope height etc for a trajectory curve. Then I use the 50 yd height to zero scope then check at 100 yds for zero or say one inch high. I have a 50 yd and 100 yard range setup at the house. Favorite rifle right now is my Ruger American in 6.5 creedmor. Target 8 at your stand midday what were you voting. Had a doe earlier just had to put phone down cause a little basket 10 point was checking her footsteps. Good luck

I was voting and buying an ar before they were banned after the Democratic party took full control.

Thanks carnivore and good luck to you Saturday. I would like to hunt today but I have to go up with the saw and clear deer trails. I have about 5 maples that I killed fall over this past weekend in the wind.
