Stellar thread, read the whole thing....enjoy reading about the habitat improvement and looking at the photography.

Thanks.

u bet, welcome aboard.

Flat Gap tonight, no deer. Target 10 is still checking in down there once or twice a day/night. Think I might try a mid day hunt down there tomorrow.

To be honest , I don't think their the same deer. The last 2 pics look like could be kin. First pictures he's missing that starter at the end of the Right beam.
But I know nothing on judging age. I always just look at their gut mostly. Either way I hope you get him.

He was a 9pt last years rack, probably 4 years old.

He is a 10pt this year.

Stone Branch I hope the lack of an evening post means your caping that big 10 point out. Were pulling for you.

Grown up obligations prevented a morning hunt so I did my corn and card run around 1 pm. I got in my Ridge stand in the afternoon with a steady south east breeze that shifted from the north an hour before sundown. I got down and checked the Kill Zone, no good there either. I tried the Rock Pile and got snorted there so I vacated the ridge before I did any more damage.

Target 10 was up on the ridge early Wednesday

and still working it after sun up.

I currently don't have a good plan to get up there in the mornings so this morning I'm sitting here feeling like a failure needing an attitude adjustment.

For what it’s worth, I can relate.
I’ve played around with a bee smoker enough to know there’s no “downwind” in our woods.
What has kinda worked for us is treating most of our woods as a sanctuary, and planting food plots on the edge of the woods. The wind is a little more reliable where the ground was flat enough to be mowed and maintained as pasture.

Stunk her up again today. Target 10 can't seem to get enough of my habitat work on Flat Gap, 41 pictures today.

I got into the Flat Gap stand at 3:30. A little buck circled around me up on the hill to the north. I had backwash thermals going up and he eventually walked into my stink behind the stand. He blew over the nose of the ridge. Target 10 beds in the bowl over the nose of the ridge.

By sundown it went calm and now sinking thermals were carrying my stink down the draw where Target 10 was circling to come up about 50-60 yards down. Not sure at first he paced back and forth then he smelled enough and blew back to Sanctuary. My two best choices now are to abandon the stand or move it down to the top of the cut. I'm thinking about having a habitat day down there tomorrow.

Take your real camera and simply enjoy all of your hard labor with it for a few days. It's not like it's the last day and you're too poor to purchase food for your table. It's also not like you have to hang that ten upon your wall, either. You have plenty of other choices.
