As 1wildcatfan said they due have an odor.
I use to have a small blind umbrella with side skirt that I used for turkey hunting. On cold mornings I would carry a 4 pack of Sterno in my vest. Two cans would warm that blind up in no time. I have a couple of 4ftx4ftx5ft tall box blinds that on really cold days while gun hunting I will close all but one window and light up a chaffing burner and set it between my legs under the chair. I have see and shot deers up wind of me while doing this.
Now I carry a back pack single burner stove that screws directly into the small butane tanks they will heat up a 5ftx5ft blind nicely but 5hen you have odor and the jet engine noise going at the same time. But I get cold easy so the heat is welcome.

They have a smell until you light them. I’m sure they still put off some smell after that but it’s not enough for a human nose to smell.

The END!!!!
Funny thing.....
I tried these a few years ago on a late gun hunt at Barkley
I wasn't impressed with the heat provided, it just dissipated to quickly,
I was not in a blind either, just sitting against a tree on the ground.

YMMV
