So I've been shooting squirrels midday on my off days before I get into my treestand. This time of year it only takes about 30 minutes to get a limit. When I was cleaning them yesterday, one was loaded with what looked like maggots, all over it's heart, lungs, intestines...basically everywhere inside when I opened it up. They also appeared to be in the meat. I did not take a picture, as i was pretty grossed out. I have never seen this in 30 years of cleaning squirrels. Any idea what it was? The white "things" did not appear to be moving or alive.

Never seen them inside....normally just under the skin. I have seen one growth in the meat of a front rabbit leg.
Surely you tossed it. just 1?

I've seen wolves or warbles what ever ya call them in all different kinds of animals. They look nasty but usually they are gone soon as a frost hits. The worms or larvae you are talking about I've only seen in a pic on the web and yes it was nasty. I really can't remember what it was called but would throw it away for sure. Maybe Google what ya seen and ya can find out what it is

They weren't large at all. Whoever said rice describes it best. They just fell off when I brushed them with my finger, except for the ones inside the meat. I only found them in 1 squirrel, and yes, I pitched it. Maybe it will kill a coon or coyote that eats it!

I shot one years ago that had a huge scab on its back and similarly bad meat. My dad about gagged when we skinned it. We didn’t even feed it to the hogs.
