Ive been after a decent 10 point all year, havent ever seen him except on camera, but i didnt hunt early archery.

I'm heading out in the morning...over the last 5 days, he has been there between 5 and 6 AM, but thursday morning, he stayed until almost 7. I want to get in there early and try not to bump him. He shows up around 5 or a little after every morning this week.

I plan on getting into the stand at 5 AM, instead of my usual 5:45 or so. I plan on using a drag rag with doe pee on it, as well as heavy cover scent. is there anything else i should do? If he keeps it up, he will be there in the morning!

I hunted this evening and didnt see anything.

So my question is, am i doing something wrong? should i approach it differently? I take the same path into the woods every time, and there are usually always new tracks on it so i dont think they really know im there.

Personally, I think getting to the stand early is a good idea and with the buck you want in there, you have to take your chances. If you don't go, you definitely wont see him.

get in there early and lay off the doe pee/cover scent. just try and stay scent free.

If the buck is mature, a new smell either cover scent or doe pee might alarm him. Why get him out of the routine he is already in? I'd have to agree, go in early and scent free, why change anything?

I would leave him alone until you camera gets him on a later time if you can do that...I think that you going in there and putting scent down is not a good thing...you know where he is not trying to get him there! I would try to make sure the wind is in your face and you are in stealth mode...dont worry if you bumb him the guy on the next farm will shoot him:cool:

i have hunted every weekend of oct. and the last two of sept, and a lot of friday afternoons, ive never used any cover scent before, and he is still there.

as far as the other farms, that doesnt worry me, nobody hunts for a good ways (legally anyway)

Got a feeling there'll be lots of deer pushed out in the morning by hunters going in myself included -- good luck
