Where's the cheapest place to get the skull / antler mount kits where u just put antlers on the board??!?!!
Man, I'm not trying to be a smart butt, but you can just get a nice shaped piece of wood and some screws and not spend anything. Go to a Michael's fabric store or something similar and get a fabric that you like to cover the skull plate. If you have to buy a kit , try walmart. I have seen them there before.
I don't know how common this is among taxidermists, but several years ago I killed a buck I was on the fence about getting mounted. My taxi told me he would do a nice, professional horn mount in exchange for the cape off my buck. Just an idea you could ask around about if you have a cape to offer.
I buy pre-shaped plaques at the craft store. I trace the skull cap on some 1/2" plywood, cut inside the line with my sabre saw, and fit the cut-out to the inside of the skull cap. I center the plywood on the plaque, screw it on, and use the hot-glue gun to mount the skull cap and antlers.
Where do u get yours at? Can you still do one if you have the antlers cut out? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've done all mine with the antlers still attached but this could be an option for ya. I've never used one of the fake skulls so not sure how good they work. http://m.basspro.com/Mountain-Mikes-Bone-Collector-Record-Keeper-Kit/product/13031306063843/766247
I did one last year with a mountain Mikes, turned out REALLY good... I will never go through the trouble of boiling, cutting, washing, bleaching a nasty skull again.
