I had a pair of Garmin collars, and due to unforseen circumstances I lost 1 collar. The other seems to be on its last leg, so it is time for a new pair. I paid around $400 for the two I had, and they lasted 7 years. Im debating buying a cheap set. If they last 2 years so be it.

You get what you pay for in collars. I’m a dogtra guy.

I like the longer prongs on the dogtra. I've got an 8 month old pup that is in dire need of some electrotherapy fine tuning. My current hunting buddy is 2.5 this year and I am reaping the benefits from training my own pup. She tore her ACL training in the yard last year the week before season came in. I posted about it, but I doubt anyone remembers. $3,200 for the ACL repair on a free pup from a friend, but hands down the best hunting partner I've had.

I’ve been thru the ACL thing. You do what you have to do.

Must be trying to train a Chessie, Hard headed dogs for sure. Had a friend try and give me a pup once with all the papers and I turned him down. Ice...The sire was a Beautiful dog just had a mind of his own. Friend was manager of Kingsbury F&W area and one day while hunting he knocked down a duck, dog went to fetch but got sidetracked and ended up back at the area headquarters a mile away but he still had that duck with him.

I use the garmin pro 550 and like it. I was a tritronics guy for years. I have a tritronics for sale if you want it still works just wanted to get a garmin for the more settings.

Garmin bought out tritronics to get into the shocking buisness best I remember. I always had tritronics and had great luck with them. I had a sportdog wetland hunter I got on sale that I never had any complaints with.

I've heard a few guys have had trouble out of the cheapest Garmin I believe in the $175-200 range. Its was the replacement for tritronics basic I think. Other than that one collar everyone seems to like Garmin and dogtra. I'm still running an old TT so I'm no help.

Tritronic classic 70s is what I have. A replacement collar is $150 and a battery is practically nothing. Since I havn't bought anything to duck hunt this year (other than 250 rounds of rios, a $160 prop, a gallon or 100 of gasoline, and a $200 browning pump from an employee needing money) what is another $400 on a set of collars for the lab hounds?

I don't do trials and am not a pro. But I bought a Dogtra about 2002 and still use it. I replaced the batteries this year for about $60. The collar cost $300 back in 02.

For hounds I use a Tritronics Trashbreaker and Garmin 320 tracker all on one collar. It’s the poor man’s Garmin Alpha.

Agree. I thought when you picked up a pup you went by the farm and picked 3 arm loads of tobacco sticks as well.

It’s probably a little flashy for a lab, but a hound doesn’t mind.
