I hate the beach, the ocean and the sand. If I want to be miserable I might as well be home getting something that benefits my family done.

When I was younger I always swam out to the sand bars however far it was. I’m not one to tempt fate but the odds of being shark ate are on par with a bobcat with rabies disemboweling you.

a couple years ago the wife got me a shark dive trip for Christmas ( she wasn't trying to get me eaten ,it was something i wanted to do ) well what she did not know ...... i had it set up to be cageless , we swam with 10 or so bull sharks ........ and nobody died ..... it was very cool and i highly recommend it....
Negative.

After the navy I don’t care to ever smell saltwater again. I remember a swim call we took in the IO onboard the USS Forrestal circa 1990 with marine snipers stationed along the rails looking for the sharks that occasionally follow ships hoping for a morsel whenever trash is dumped overboard. I skipped it lol.

Love the beach. Could grab a drink and watch a good beach sunset every evening.

I love the beach.
I also love the Beach, I went 4 times the year I retired.
My son was at Ft. Bragg for a few years and that's only a couple hours away....daytrip every time we visited. But I wouldn't wish Fayetteville, NC on anyone.
I never was much for getting Out very far and especially Now after all the shark sightings.
I saw a Big one from my hotel balcony at Myrtle Beach one time, and never forgot it.They are always There.
Nice photos @xbokilla .

I'm not a huge beach fan but when I'm in the water I'm looking for fish. I'm the one who goes towards them when I see them. Figure the chances of being bitten are minimal. I've seen several over the years pretty close, the biggest maybe a 5-6' hammerhead. This year had four (4) stingrays swimming back and forth within spittin' distance.

I’ll get in and swim but not at dawn or dusk. I don’t wear anything shinny when I’m in the ocean. I wear my black silicone ring. A good way to loose a hand is a shark mistaking your wedding ring for a fish. If I’m fishing I’ll limit it to times when folks aren’t swimming much.

I was on the pier at Navarre Beach many years ago and I saw three sharks that looked to be maybe four ft swimming VERY close to the beach. I know the odds are very low of being attacked by a shark....but I've never forgotten that sight.

I was fishing with a good friend who lives in Miami a few years later and we caught a barracuda in shallow water (not close to a beach)....Not a shark, but not something I'd want to bite down on my leg....

Talked with some shark fisherman on a pier at Panama City in '81. Talked to them a couple of days. They told us sharks were always there. Hell, they had bonita hanging off the end of the pier for chum. We saw a true 8' shark swim within 10' of a woman and two kids swimming near the pier. We hollered at them, they had no idea what we were saying.
