As the season approaches it’s time to be scouting, setting stands, shooting regularly, and putting out trail cams. Most of this I have done already, still haven’t set my one cam out, but my buddy has a couple out. We did some scouting this evening the easy way! Any others got a start on season prep?
Marks cam had some Doe pictures, doesn’t appear they like his cam, this one stuck it’s tongue out at it!
Today I switched over to try out a few broadheads, It’s that time, flew same as field tips. I can miss with anything!
Been trying to shoot more regularly with the season getting close. I have narrowed down to one bow and one set of arrows; almost! But as I was grabbing some things this evening to go out and shoot I had an old arrow to catch my eye. It’s one that I cut from some kind of bush many years ago, can’t even remember what type. I dried, straightened, and glued some stripped LW Turkey feathers on it. The old fletching looked rough, there was no tip so I glued one on, and stuck it in my quiver. I made it when I was younger and shooting 60# bows so I knew it was stiff enough. It weighed a whooping 700 grain with the 200gr point. The strangest thing about this all is that more than once this old homemade arrow was the best in the group! Does that mean us old, faded, overweight men may still be in the game? I sure hope so! Lol
I think thats exactly what it means! Maybe you two old codgers need to pair up? Every season to me has a theme, and it is never ‘huge buck’ most of thr time its kill a deer with a bow that has some signifigsnce, like built for me by a friend, once it was gut a deer with a knofe a friend regave me. I gave him a blade blank, he killed his fitst recurve deer on my farm, and put the antler hande on it for me, made a sheath, and gave it back. That arrow needs to br your theme. Kill a deer with it, and post the pic.
Test driving some different broadheads and arrows this morning. You know that ugly sound you hear when a metal broadhead goes down a carbon arrow? It’s not pretty, but arrow was okay, just little scuffed. I should have learned my lesson last year...
