2 coyotes, a 4 point and two does in the first hour. Around 9:30 had a 10 point come in while chasing a doe. He gave me a perfect 20 yard shot and stepped forward as I released. Gut shot. Arrow was covered in gut matter. White hair on the ground and no blood at impact zone. I did see the shot go in about 8 inches from the bottom but too far back. He ran about 40yds and then stopped for about a minute before walking into thicker cover. Any advice? This is my first gut shot with a bow

A few hours or wait till tomorrow? I realize gut shot kills are hard to predict a time frame. Gun opener tomorrow might make this a challenge.
I’d go check for him a few hrs before dark. I’m no expert but I do know you don’t wanna be chasing around a 10pt the opening morning of gun. If you bump him this evening or feel like sign tells you he needs more time...you can make that decision then. Good luck and wear your orange tracking!

Im wanting to get my nephew his 1st deer so bad I decided to stay out today to not risk bumping anything. I can shoot something almost daily until I take him, hoping to finally break his curse

Me I’d wait 10-12 hrs.
Well th news just got worse. I was ready to wait this out but when I text the neighbor to ask if I could come over to look he said he was on his way to spread corn. He will be on his 4wheeler riding right through the area I think the deer is bedded.
As a side note the action was the best I've seen all year. Get out there if you can. Gun season should be dynamite

It was brutal here 2. I never get cold and I almost froze my arse off
Same here. Froze my baggets off in this wind. I think I'm gonna let my little spot rest this evening and take my chances with the boom stick tomorrow.

I stayed in until 11, no deer after the 3 pointer... Wind, wind, wind... Have to go to a Veterans Day program at my youngest daughters school, then back out until dark. My Dad saw a shooter this morning, but he's headed to a different farm, I may slide in there down the holler a piece and try to get out of the wind.

It's been dead for me. Only one deer sighting this morning. I've replaced my buck arrow with a meat missle for this afternoon's hunt. First nanny that shows up is in trouble. I have an itchy trigger finger.

Had a fun hunt today. Got in the stand half hour before legal light. The woods was going nuts with chasing. Then I heard a bunch of blowing but I really don't think they caught my scent. (Have you ever heard deer blow at other deer? Like a doe blowing?). It had me confused. At the time I figured it was my scent. But come to realize the hot doe and the dominant buck never did leave the spot only 60 yards down the hill and in the cedars. I only realized this as a little 8 point wanted some action and the bigger buck growled and ran him off. That was quite the wake up call. Anyway, three times the little buck went down there and he'd keep getting run off. He left and the doe took off up the hill buck in tow but away from me. They ended up coming back to 25 yards. The doe caught my thermal something and just turned around and left the way she came. The buck was a nice 125 or so 8 point and I probably wouldn't have shot him. But it was cool being within 30 yards of him. Turning into a guide for the rest of the season. Gotta get my boys on a deer.
