I ran across a nice Ruger Hawkeye today. It's black stock with stainless barrel. It looks like new but its used. He's asking $850 for it. Sounds like an ok deal but not too sure. Is that a fair price and how hard is 7mm/08 ammo to find?

Is that the one with what they call the “boat paddle” stock? Walmart sold those and their prices have went way up. Apparently some were just so so, but some were excellent shooting rifles.

So Whittakers had a special run on Ruger Hawkeye stainless 7/08 for a few days. I purchased one. If everything goes to shit that will be the second rifle I pick up. Crazy accurate and once you get used to clunky stock it’s pretty good. Also mine isn’t the boat paddle which was a very good stock.

I love the Hawkeyes but I am a big ruger fan anyways. I picked up a few boxes of Hornady eldx 7mm08 in ky gun co Louisville store yesterday. Plenty of it on the shelf there. I dont find it in every store but I find it pretty regularly. 850 sounds like a very good deal for a stainless Hawkeye. As a matter of fact, if you decide to pass let me know and hook me up with his contact info and I'll buy it.
