SOB. They’re picking corn across creek from the stand I wanted DW to hunt. Within 50 yards of stand. No hunt there today. Dang. 30 acre bottom. Of all times.

My favorite time to hunt. Runs all the ones that have been living in there out. Probably when I’ve seen the most deer, of course it’s been a bit later in the season.

Some Bucks were on the move last night. I had three decent on a camera. All still in velvet. I didn’t hunt today. Last year, I killed one on opening weekend. I’ve done that before, and always say to my self, it’s to freakin hot and ticks are bad to be out killing deer. Good luck to whoever is out. I still might get in my stand, but really I would rather wait until it is cooler weather.

Went to one of my hunting spots today to prep for a last second food plot and thought I’d look in my box stand since one window was somehow open. Opened the door and seen a dead mouse and mouse nest, no big deal. It’s like that every year. Then seen a large snake coiled up in the corner. Looked for something in the truck to get him out, couldn’t find anything. Opened the door back up and almost a tennis ball sized wasps nest loaded with wasps in there. I said he can have it and closed the door back and left. Lol I’ll go back next week with some spray and deal with it then.

DW saw a doe, and a doe with fawn. I had this guy come in at 5:10, and watched him for 40 minutes. I wish I had let DW hunt this stand. Pretty buck. I grabbed my bow when I first spotted him 75 yards out in the woods. Would love to see him next year. IMG_7489.JPG

I hunt afternoons only this time of year. Because deer in my places will be out in the fields I have to get across to my stand. I always get busted. So I dont push it early season. So I hunted yesterday afternoon an will this afternoon if rain isn't too bad. I got in the stand at 2pm yesterday. At 3pm a 120inch 8pt showed up alone to eat for about 15 minutes then he ran off back down to the bedding area. Never knew I was there. Then about 4pm still early I look to my left an the shooter im after was at 20yards behind some thick green brush. I could see him well but not good enough to take a shot. He always comes this way so I didnt wanna push it. He was fixing to walk right under me to get to the corn. So I grab bow an get rdy. An he takes a couple more steps toward me an I hear a limb crack way behind me. He stops looks an turns an heads straight toward that sound. For the next hr I could hear deer behind me but never seen them. About 5 they started coming up out of the holla behind me. Several came an ate a while lil bucks an does. But he never came back. I slipped out unnoticed which was another positive. So close. Full velvet 150 plus. Dang it.....
