Yikes! I stayed in Eastern N. Carolina for a while and permanent stands were frequently destroyed by bears, along with signs or anything left out. My brother lived in a trailer down there while building his house. A bear got under the trailer and tore up his ductwork.

We now only use disposable trail cams here. And, by disposable mean just the absolute cheapest we can find. Apparently we have high maintenance type bears here. They seem to just sniff, lick, paw the cheap ones but destroy the better ones.

They REALLY do not like cameras for some reason. We had a new bear show up and he found every single camera across almost 400 acres and either broke it or knocked it around the tree. Within a week.

We've been joking that come bear season we'll just put out a bunch of trail cams to bypass the baiting rule lol
lol, or cushions, camo burlap, ATV seats, etc. etc. Anything left in or around your stand is fair game, especially those pesty cubs.

Not here anymore
I just have to laugh. I learned the same lesson when I moved to NC for a few years. Their nose is exceptional and if you had corn or bait of any kind on you hands then touched your camera, they would find your camera.

I had a real nice top of the line covert that took its final picture of a close up bear nostril

Since then we learned to put the cameras farther back and do the camera work first before dumping the bait

I have heard that Bears have the Best Nose of anything out there.
One report said a Radio Collared Male Polar Bear was meandering across the Artic tundra and suddenly made a Beeline to another Radio Tagged Female Bear. The Female was 90 miles away and he went straight to her.
(I'm not asking You to Believe it....but ????)

They are excellent table fare. If you have cameras in bear country they will eventually find them and destroy them. Cell cams go in security boxes here and we only have the occasional bear.
