Caught him crossing my froze pond this morn. I dont kill red fox but would if they were killing chickens or ducks.
I've enjoyed seeing one off and on here for a couple of years. 30 years ago it would have been in big trouble.
I’ve only seen one ever. On a youth hunt with my cousin. They are beautiful creatures. Not sure id want to kill one either. If I did I’d have to get it mounted.
They were very common in the 70's. Didn't see any for years. See quite a few now. See them in my neighborhood fairly regularly. Beautiful animals.
Have had several around for a few years, this one was the first one in a year though and glad to see it.
Coyotes have pushed the red fox out and killed most, that's why you see them on edges of your yards and making dens under sheds in people's yards
As Trapper says, seems that the first thing coyotes do when they expand in to a new area is try to kill all the fox, as apparently the two species generally compete for the same ground animal food sources. We have fox in our yard regular like. My son lives on a river bluff with lots of limestone cave like burrows or caves and there are fox raised in that area every year.

Would have made a good photo op.
I usely catch 15 to 20 on years I trap hard,. If I start new farm that has coyotes it takes 3 to 4 years before the first red fox catch,. We have them on the golf course as aggravating as they are still rather see them than a coyote, red fox loves sand traps they are like mean little kids that hide and watch once the sand trap is rake and looking good next morning it looks like they had a party burry left over stuff maybe rabbit head or guts dig holes all over the place
I was seeing a single red and a pair of greys last year, haven't seen either this year. I caught a grey last year and released it. That was interesting, thanks Buckson for the vid on it. It was an interesting challenge by oneself.
