I absolutely hate the things. Walkin in this morning in the dark not using a flashlight I guess I near stepped on him, he fired up sounded like right at my feet. Needless to say I vacated the area immediately and made about a 50 yard detour, he can have that particular part of the field I didn’t really need to walk right there anyway. Thankfully though there was no further contact, I went my way and he I guess continued doing whatever it was he was doing. I honestly don’t have anything against them, they just do what they do and really won’t mess with you unless you mess with them first.

They are quiet, for the most part. I’ve heard maybe 6 different birds and I’ve hunted 7 days straight. One morning they gobbled on the roost. Yesterday had two gobbling about this time of day in the ground, got to about 80 yards and hung up

Use a Red Light walking in. NO way I would walk in around those Timber Rattlers. When the wake up in the Spring, they are agressive And Potent. Do NOT count on them to Rattle.

I walked up on a rat snake year before last that was sunning in the dead leaves. I stood there listening intensely for a far off bird and I guess he finally had enough of my intrusion. He couldn’t have been three feet away and started shaking his tail in those dry leaves. It took a second for my brain to register what the noise was and start looking for a snake. My blood ran cold until I finally found her/him shaking that tail trying it’s best to sound like a rattler in those dry leaves. Scared me.
