Sure was cold enough this morning and I was excited to try out my new rod after breaking one the other day. It was a cheapo but I liked it and went to get another just like it. They had sold out and after looking at every rod the local Walmart had I finally picked out another 7 ft light action rod but had to pay twice as much for it. Anyway I had left it in the back of my truck and the darn thing casted fine although wet with ice on it. Got a good bite that nearly pulled it in and when I jerked and hooked the fish I realized everything on it had frozen up. I couldn't wind, the drag was stuck and all I could do was hold it till the line popped. It jumped several times and looked as if it went 2lbs or more. I sat in the truck and thawed my rod and reel out and managed to get 2 more putting us at 282 for the year. With 2 more months to go I believe we will make our goal of 300. Tight lines y'all

I like a 7' light and medium action rod paired with Pfluger Trion ultralight reels. One I'm not sure the brand but is 7' light action from wal mart and one is a 7ft medium action berkley cherry wood. I spool these two with 10-12lb braid and use mono on the other setups. Makes a big difference if your fishing in alot of cover or snags you can straighten the hook out when hung up versus retying alot. And have a little insurance if you hang into something big.

Both my rods are 7 foot with that ofluger reel on them. I spool half the reel with braid and then tie a uniknot onto 2lb line to trout fish. If crappie fishing I use the same rods but just put a heavier mono or feurocarbin on. I also use a 10 ft rod with 6 lb test to crappie fish. Seems I catch more trout with the smaller line. I lose a few but catch a lot more than I did with bigger line.

Well we did it we finally made our goal of 300. I went this morning and got 3. Had a terrible day, broke my line more times than I can count and then somehow managed to get tangles up and broke my new rod. Still don't know how I managed to do that. Went back this evening with Johnny and his other grandson Evan which is Ethan's twin brother. He managed to get two which out is at 301.

Went out of town today and luckily still had a rod in the truck with me. Fished in a different creek today. I seen the stock truck and pulled in and started fishing. The ones they put in was a whole lot bigger than we been catching and all I had with me was one rod with 2lb test. I lost 7 and managed to catch 2 before I got cold and called it a day.

Went to the lake this morning at daylight but had a bad catch in my back. I got down to the water and messed up and sat down. Got 1 bite but couldn't get stood back up to get it. Time I finally rolled around and got up it had taken my bait. I figured I might outta go ahead and get back home and sure glad I did. The pain has gotten nearly unbearable and I'm most likely gonna be stuck on the couch for the biggest portion of the day. Good thing is in still here and kicking and I thank the Good Lord that I've still gotta another day. Guess I'll have to fish in another day
