We got 14 on Saturday. A buddy's group got 12 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. The rain is keeping them from holeing up on the dogs and they are pounding them right now. There is a lot of rabbits this year.

    Let em run!

I heard from a relieable source that the FW guys think there are too many rabbits this year. Their eating the bark off of all the saplings and are killing them. The forestery guys are mad about it. They are going to have zones similar to the deer hunt zones to reduce the numbers. In zone 1 counties you'll be able to kill all the rabbits that you can, no limits, except you'll need to have a bonus rabbit ticket, which cost 50 cents for 2 extra rabbits. If you get more than you can eat, they want you to give them to the soup kitchens in Louisville, Frankfort or Lexington. In zone 2 counties the new limit will be 10, and in zone 3 the limit will be 8. Only in zone 4 will you have to just take 4. But in zone 2, 3, and 4's you can buy scratch off tickets for an instant win, that will allow you an extra one on those limits. Supposed to go into effect next year.

Nice to see someone is taking some rabbits. Growing up in Missouri, I hunted these critters all the time, with and without dogs. I haven't seen the numbers of rabbits here in kentucky that I saw there. Maybe someone could enlighten me on some good areas up here in Northern kentucky to hunt. I like to take my daughter out with me. She's 7 now, but I've taken her since she was about 4. She enjoys chasing them out of brushes and brush piles. Maybe, she just likes being out with the dog, I don't know. Thanks for any input you can give.

    catmaster,
Are there any good WMA's around these counties? Being new to the state, I don't have much access to private land to hunt on. thanks for the lead!!

Jault, the closest WMA to you in northern Ky are Curtis Gates Lloyd and Mullins in Grant county, right down 75 to the Crittenden exit. I have hunted both of these years ago. They get hit pretty hard from out of staters. I beleive both are managed for small game. Adair is also close to you in Boone co near Big Bone park, but I have never hunted it. You can get more info on them from Ky's fish and wildlife page under Guide to public wildlife areas. Good Luck

we went out 3 times last week and jump a total of 13 rabbits and killed 7 . The problem in my area is that there are to many clean field and the area that have good cover are hunted to death. 88 rabbits I need to come up and visit<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I am going to get to hunt alot more this week due to vac. I hope everyone season goes well.

    Good luck, Chris

Hunted yesterday for 2.5 hours and got 6 rabbits and 6 quail between 3 of us. I got 4 quail and 2 rabbits out of the bunch. Could have limited out if I had more time. I had fun shooting the quail, but now I wish I would have taken my bow cause the rabbits were really slow and could have gotten some easy shots. I had to literally kick one so it would run!

Yesterday I had the best day hunting that I've had in KY in 25 years.
I took my 2 German Shorthair pups out and they pointed 4 coveys of quail. After chasing them around we put my dogs up and turned my
friends beagles loose. We killed 7 rabbits in a little over 2 hours.
We didn't want to shoot any more so we let the dogs run for another
hour until dark made us stop. It was one of those days that will always be remembered. We all need more of those.

Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog!
