I'll tell the story first and then ask the question. Yesterday my wife got a text from her niece saying that turtle man had just left their house, keep in mind this in eastern Ky. She said he stayed for a couple hours and had went in the woods looking for arrowheads and took one or two of her family with him. At this point my wife was calling BS until she starting texting her pictures of him around their house. TNow to the question. Is just visiting random people here in the state something he does, could he have been told there was a sick child there and he was paying a visit? They do have a cousin that has has cancer, but he was never mentioned or in any of the pics. Maybe he was visiting a school and asked teachers who he could visit? II don't know the guy, just what of the few times I've saw him on Tv, but kids seem to love him. I just can't understand why he come to a house in the head of a holler in eastern Ky for no reason.

He was visiting a sick child in Floyd county from time to time last year pretty often without the cameras and all. Maybe he was just doing the same kind of thing in the situation you described.

Maybe he's just a nice guy who enjoys the fame and uses it to go do things he enjoys...like spending time with nice folks looking for arrowheads. He seems like a simple guy who enjoys the simple things in life.

He was visiting a friends(from school) little boy who has cancer here in Floyd co. He even shaved his head with him and didn't allow the cameras around.

That's just it, she said he just came there.

Maybe their place is known for arrowheads? I guess I'm not really too surprised. I know people that have run into him out and about. He seems like a really good guy. Being simple doesn't seem like a bad thing. His shows may be somewhat staged but his personality seems to be the same on and off camera.

I'm not sure about the area having many arrowheads, but I agree being simple isn't a bad thing. He doesn't seem like the type that worries so much about the material things.

down a holler SE KY
I met Neil (Banjo) one night when I first moved down here, we were bs'n at a table by the pool for an hr or so and I didn't know who he was till my 9yr old son fresh from CT, got outa the pool and said "Dad, you know Banjo?" Then Animal Planet dawned on me. We talked till after midnight (kids were allowed still swim at hotel, lol)
By Banjo's accounts Turtleman is down to earth guy from very modest means, still not big on all modern tech, and refuses a cell phone, by which Banjo got into being a key player for Turtleman, taking calls and such, and by his own admission they gotta kinda ham it up for the movie people.
P.S. Banjo is a real down to earth fella, I spent as comfortable time with him as friends I know my whole life.

My wife and girls stood in line during Van Lear Days to meet Neal and Turtleman. We waited for 8 hrs in the steaming heat to meet these guys, and we finally made it to them at 1am. As we waited I couldn't understand why it was taking so long for the line to move. When we got to him I understood why. Turtleman and Neal took as many pics as we wanted and were as energetic at 1 in the morning as they had been at 4 in the afternoon.

It was also my 10 year old's bday and Neal played Happy Birthday to her and Turtleman danced her around...it was a pretty cool moment for her.

They may be simpletons....but they seem to stand up guys.
