Let the pissing match begin! I’ve never looked thru a Vortex model higher than a Diamondback. And I can say that I see no reason to look based off how much aberration it has. You’d think a middle of line scope would have been better. I don’t understand the love they get.

Vortex is a cheap scope. They work fine for what I do.

I also don’t mind to shoot a dog here and there but I don’t have FaceBook.

If I’ve heard it once I’ve heard of 1000 times out of @1wildcatfan European glass is the best.

Well I used to run cheap scopes like tasco simmons bushnell. Then I got a vortex diamondback and realized it was so much better, and now I’ve got about 4 hawke scopes and I really like them.
But I’ve never looked through anything higher end than a 200 dollar scope, I wouldn’t imagine it could get much better, but I could be wrong

We had Steiner and Zeiss optics at work. I use to use a pair of Steiner Military binoc's(big, ship sized) that were so clear and well defined it was shocking.
One of the rifles in our armory had a Leupold Mark 4 on it, it was very nice as well..
Ive had a bad habit of using budget scopes over the years, sub $150 scopes.. I still hunt with open sights a lot (I love skinner sights) so I haven't shown my glass the love it deserves..

All my hunting guns wear a Leupold, even my crossguns. They do everything a scope should be good at for around here, real well. I love a Leupold, but I have a couple big Nightforce scopes on bench guns that plum put them to shame. And there are a few that'll put a Nightforce to shame. It can always be better, it just takes $$$. I took a Vudoo .22 with a 60X Nightforce squirrel hunting the other day, and watched the squirrels' heartbeat and pupils move from 60 yards. Pretty cool but unnecessary lol.
I tried a couple Vortex scopes when they first came about, I don't care for them, but they're certainly adequate for most normal KY deer/critter hunting.

Agreed. He put me onto Meopta. Had no idea glass could be that clear. Let alone the low light performance.

I used to think the exact same thing. Not that I’m old by any means. But at 44, my eyes can see and tell the difference now that I used to not think existed. In a store setting you can’t tell it. Out in the woods and fields, it stands out like sore thumb.

You ever stop to think how much it really cost to build the scope you pay $200 for? I'm guessing, but can't see how it could cost more than $20-$25 to build scopes that sell for $150-$200 here. Raw material, making parts, assembling, packaging, shipping from plant to port, coming over on big container ship, longshoremen unloading containers, shipping to distributor, shipping from distributor to retailers, probably missed something and each step along the way a profit is being made.

But a guy I used to work with always said you need to spend as much money on the optic as you did the gun

He's pretty close. Great gun with a chit scope is a chit gun. Chit gun with a good scope is a good gun, usually.

I will say this, if you think you can’t afford higher quality optics, Do some damn research. there are a lot of opportunities to get these hire end scopes for a discounted price. Not to keep name dropping him but 1wildcatfan put me on to Euro optics.com when I was trying to locate a EoTech 512 .they sell a lot of demo units for a good discount that are practically brand new( mine was) and if you just spend some time digging through the inter-web you most likely find any thing you want for at least 30% discount. I like to keep good quality stuff around me but I guarantee you have never paid full price for anything

I always heard you should spend double on glass as you do on the rifle.

Not going to happen on my budget. I don’t care how good your glass is, a 2 MOA rifle is a 2 MOA rifle.

I’ve got a few that are in 1/2 MOA territory so I figured they deserved better glass. My average scope on a center fire rifle cost $350-$600. Shotguns, crossbows and rimfires are lucky if I get into $250 territory.
