Well after getting some bids, my boys are learning to roof.
Roofers earn every penny!
And sometimes not enough!
I hate anything to do with a roof.
I used to love being on roof, especially framing rafters. I'm with you now, I hate anything to do with a ladder or roof!
My youngest son has repeated Warned me to Stay off Roofs, he says if it says "UP" don't do it.
I try to mind him unless it's an emergency. He used to help builders from age 14 to 18 in Summers and he was a DamSquirrel.
I paid to have a metal roof put on the house my oldest boy lives in and it's so Damslick, that I can't even clean the gutters. He did it Barefooted.
Worked on many tin roofs barefooted. And used old seat cushion foam on shingled roofs. I have several roofers within my inlaw family...so i dont do much of it anymore lol.
I've seen my last roof. Just not as coordinated as I used to be. Plus I get vertigo very easy now. That's why I'm tied to a tree in the stand.
Rafters were always my favorite too. I always made sure that anybody who framed for me learned how to step off rafters or hips with a framing square. If they didn't know how, I taught them.
Hardest 1500 bucks I ever saved! Swore never again. My knees hurt, my back hurt...MY THUMBS hurt the worst!!!
I used to be a high flyer on a couple framing crews. I loved it. After falling off a roof years back and just age in general...I don’t do anymore than a 6/12. I’m done with roofs.
I feel you man, but the lowest bid I got was 6000 labor, 9000 was the high bid, so poof I am a roofer.
I did my roof 30 years ago! It was a small 1100 sq ft ranch with attached garage and tear off. Some friends convinced me that nails were better than staples! It was the hardest work I have ever done.
Young guy working on my barn this summer was like a Billy Goat up there. Scared the heck out of me. I wouldnt even get upright and ambulance would be on the way!!!
I know that feeling too well . Vertigo is my problem . Turn around or bend over and loose balance . Sometimes I bend over to get something from my frige and stand up turn around and everything keeps going.
I have a big barn that needs some tin put back on and one entire side screwed down but I am not able to do it and I don't want my son up there by himself . Back when I bought my farm I was all over this barn painting the roof by hand. It is tall and steep.
