Yeah, gues I got a littel keybpard happy. meant ESP ( English shorthaired pointer).

Cobb, those are some nice looking dogs and they seem to have relatively nice coats as well. Please let me know when you get your pup. would love to check him out and maybe even pop in on a NAVHDA training day or 2 with you. We have a great place to train at the BGSL. 40 acres plus checkered for field trials and we keep quail around during preserve season to train with and hopefully we will have another batch of homing pigeons this year to train with as well. I'm there most weekends either exercising or training my dog and I hope to add another pup to the fold this winter.

Just for fun, here are a few pics of my draht in action:

That is one fine looking dog right there, thanks for sharing!!

You're more than welcome to ride along to a training day. I am attending a handlers clinic up there in June, but it sold out in less than a week. Our Fall test is September 21st, and I will for sure be attending that as well. I'll PM you about the BGSL. I'll also post pics of the pups from when I go visit this Friday. Thanks!

    Dates as follows:

    May 17 Spring Test
    June 21st
    July 19th
    Aug 16th
    Sept 6th (Pre Test session)
    Sept 20-21 Fall Test

Are you referring to English Pointers? Or is this another versatile breed I'm unaware of? The versatile world confuses me. Sorry. I

    Brett,

yes...ESP = english pointer and no i wouldnt consider them truly as a versatile breed although some trainers might disagree. I think of them more as a specialist.

Largefrag, how is your dog around kids. I have two small children and the only thing that makes me lean P.P is their reputation as a better family dog. Like you, I do alot of waterfowl and love the looks of Drahts, but reptuation for aggression has me a little concerned.

That reputation is blown way out of proportion. Sure there are some bad apples, but most drahts i have seen are great around kids, and dog-dog aggression is also rarely a problem. I have a 2 .5 year old daughter who runs around trying to grab his tail and jump on him all the time. He puts up with it and just trys to walk away from her. Don't get me wrong, he is still a dog and has had to be corrected as time or two and they don't play together unsupervised but neither does my mastiff. For that matter, no small child should ever be left around a dog unsupervised regardless of breed, afterall, it's still a dog. Honestly, I've seem more aggression problems in the more common breeds like labs than i have in drahts and I have now been around quite a few. photo3.JPG photo1.JPG photo2.JPG photo.JPG

It went great. Drove up Friday with my older daughter so she could "help" pick the pup out. Driving back this Friday to pick it up. She helped tremendously. Helped seeing how they reacted to her. We spent about 2 hours with them, got rained on the whole time. She also played with the Sire a bunch too. And as big as he is, he was very gentle and loved the attention. We ended up picking the purple collared pup. He just seemed the most interested in Daphne. But all of them were just great. Hard choice for sure.

Yea, he's been a lot of fun. Unique personality so far. Eats great. Sleeps a lot. Chases my girls around the yard! Pointed a Robin Sunday briefly. Then last night pointed a big ole toad on the sidewalk. He wanted it bad too. I had him on a leash because he's so hard to see in the dark.
