Took my 9 year old son hunting over the weekend. He took his very first turkey all by himself with me just standing by telling him when it was okay to shoot. His youth model Mossberg 20 gauge didn't have any mercy on the tom at 20 yards. He showed great patience and made a great shot. When the bird dropped, I was more excited than I was when I took my first bird. He has won all kinds of archery tournament awards, but I think this was the most proud dad moment I have had yet. My wife asked him if he wanted to mount it. He stared for a second then asked if he can still eat it. After explaining it to him, he decided he would rather eat it and just do a tail fan mount.

    21 lbs.
    8 1/2" beard
    1 1/4" spurs

Congrats to you two. I know that was an incredible hunt. My son killed his first one two years ago at age 10. We both cried a little. Nothing beats it. Raisin'em right.

I've never had a turkey mounted. Can you not eat one that you are mounting?

Sure you can eat it if the taxi saves and freezes the breast. I have!

Yep, just want to let the taxi do it because he knows the correct way to clean it without harming the mount. But I like the kids thought process, too good not to eat. Congrats bud!
