My oldest told me she wanted to go Friday morning after I checked cameras Thursday and found a few new bucks showing up and quite a few daylight pics. I told her if it was raining when I got up I wasn’t going to wake her up.
when I awoke I seriously thought bout laying back down and not even waking her cause I knew the rain was coming and it wasn’t going to let up all day. I walked outside and it wasn’t raining so I asked her if she wanted to go and she said yes. We gathered our things and headed to the property.
About 15 minutes after we arrived and got settled in the elevated blind the rain did to. At 740 a small 4pt came out and stayed for a few minutes then turned and hurried up the ridge. At 755 I look back out and one of the new bucks that showed was standing at 25yds. I got the crossbow up for her and she got on him and pulled the trigger. I watched the lighted nock hit perfect up and down put it looked to be just a touch back. But the thud of it hitting him I was certain it was lethal. He bolted straight ahead off into a big hollar and I watched him out of sight. I got out and checked the bolt and the blood looked good. I got back in and told her we were waiting till 10 just to be sure.
IT FREAKING POURED!!! My wife met us at 10 and we started looking. There was no blood to track so I climbed up high so I could glass the hollar. We walked bout 50 yards out of the plot and I stood up on a hump of dirt and he laid dead about 40yds below me. She still got both lungs and liver even though it was a touch back. She told me “you always say they like to move in the rain”....I said “yes but not a hurricane” lol.
she had a swing and miss first day of rifle but kept grinding passing little bucks. It paid off with her best buck yet and all because she pushed me to go....that’s the part I love.
this little lady is growing up on me quick but she still loves to hunt with me and I cherish it so much.
I lost my dad April 28th of this year and I know he was with us that morning and he loved every freaking minute of it all.
    We love ya pop
