I just bought a high powered 18 joule electric fence box. It plugs into 110 outlets. I hope this thing is stout enough to knock an elephant down:mad::mad::mad::mad:
I was looking at portable power supplies so I can move the box to different areas of my farm. I have electric at the house on my farm but have to run a wire a couple hundred feet to the fence or box. I Would rather the electric fence box be away from the house, so it does not cause a fire.
I have checked out power stations on Harbor freight. The cheapest one is like $280 and is 400 watt and you can ad solar to it.

I know that you have to know they make solar fence boxes. They are a little pricey but I would not buy portable power station and leave it in the field Just to juice an AC fence box. Hell I’ve got some old 12 V DC units I will give you and just throw a battery next to the fence post

If anything I would take that AC thing you bought and return it, get my money back and go with a solar fence box

All of my 12V solar boxes work great, Heck I even run some old 6V solar boxes. Bad fence wire with broken Strands, loose or corroded terminations and poor grounding will stunt the performance of any box so make sure you have all your equipment right

I finally settled on a Rockpals Freeman 600. Does everything I need it too and has the lifepo4 battery that lasts 3,000+ charges instead of 300. Still need to see how it does charging with a solar panel.

Thanks for the offer beauhunter

Been there and done all of the boxes you mentioned. 12-volt box, Gallagher solar box and a couple other solar boxes. None work for these roguish cattle. They just don't put out enough juice to knock em.
The existing fence is in really good shape and is woven wire with a strand of barb wire at the top.
This new one I have is Power Wizard 18000 that is 18 joules. A lot of the boxes are 2 joules or less and some are .25 joule.
I paid $297 off the shelf for the power wizard and other places I seen that had them was around the $450 mark.
On the package it says it is strong enough for Elk and Bear. I hope the heck if fries their butts.

I thought I had killed a cow yesterday morning. The cows were out in the hayfield. I was chasing them with my tractor, and I was mad.
I bumped a couple of them pretty good. One big black cow got back behind me. I whipped my tractor out and kicked it in a higher gear and after her I went. That who're ran up to the fence and jumped it and it was downhill on the other side. I never seen her come up and I got out to look, thinking she had broken her neck. Got out of my tractor and looked and she was belly up with the top strand of the woven wire wrapped around her ankle. I cut the wire and I'll be darn she had a strand of barbwire wrapped also. Her head was downhill and if I had of left her, she would have bloated and died.
These cattle are smart and know the minute we leave so they can get out. My son sold some of them thinking he would get rid of the ring tail leader but no we didn't get the right ones. I set up a trail camera trying to catch the leader of the bunch but caught a nice 8 point on the camera.

Plus I just like to gather clutter. Wife is not happy about it.
I collect old ammunition and hunting memorabilia. My house looks like a 1930’s sporting outlet. My wife collects crappy art that makes folks feel fancy. You can see the battle of tastes played out in real time on each wall and shelf.

On the portable power… I’m really old school. My “off grid” stuff is just that, no grid. Lanterns, firewood. If I’m not next to my truck I don’t have power or care outdoors. Still use my Jon-E pocket heaters, they are memorabilia as well.

I just decided to look in my hoard closet and found the jet boil. It's a Minimo personal cooking system. I probably didn't pay $60 for it but they are now $150 from what I can Google. Wow!

Any battery operated charger i ever used would knock your dick in the dirt, and cattle are far more sensitive to electrical shock than humans, due to more water in their bodies. You either had a bad fence setup, or did not have it visible enough, and they were past stopping when they hit it.
Gotta make it visible so they ease up to it, then reach out to smell it and get zapped. If they hit it at a dead run, no amount of electric will stop them. Gotta keep electric fences weed eated.

They were jumping the fence and as they jump, they would take it down. These cows are gentle as dogs but when they want out there is no stopping them. These SOB's know when you leave and would get out as soon as you left.
I left one night from mowing hay and I did not close the last gate in a field where nothing, but hay ground was. I told my son to go close the gate and guess what the cows was already there at that gate, and it was not 10 minutes since I had left the place.
